Hi
  1. How often does employee have to provide Eye test to employees who habitually use VDU as part of their daily work. Is it once every 12 months; 18 months; 2 years. ?. Is there a defined set period of time this has to be provided ?
  2. Also, if you require glasses as result of this eye testing. How much does employer have to pay towards this - is it a fixed amount or a fixed %
I was looking at http://www.hsa.ie/eng/Workplace_Health/Display_Screen_Equipment/Display_Screen_Equipment.html#dselaw and 'Protective equipment and measures' section of http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employment/employment_rights_and_conditions/health_and_safety/health_safety_work.html but these do not seem to be called out

Thanks

I think it all depends on the employer. As long as they comply to certain aspects of the recommendations.
I know at my work we get a yearly medical which includes eye test. Prescription safety glasses are provided FOC but I'm not sure about standard glasses.

Nope, legislation just says they have to be made available to an employee on starting work, and then at regular intervals. It doesn't define how often they have to be to be considered regular.

If testing indicates you require glasses purely for VDU use, then the employer is liable for the cost of 'minimum requirement frames and lenses'. If the issue uncovered isn't limited to VDU use, then you must pay yourself. So it'll just be the cost of the most basic option available.
