for a standard ceiling in new build bungalow
What are the different types if ceiling slabs
I would like to get a good quality slab

Search plasterboard on the net and you will find all the different types listed.Gyproc is a large manufacturer also

It all depends on what you are hoping to acheive.
1) Standard wallboard 12.5mm
2) duplex wallboard 12.5mm ( reflective back on plasterboards usually used on ceilings / attic provides a vapour barrier
3) Soundbloc board ( use if you want to reduce db levels)

Either Gypsum , Lafarge or Knauf all have a range of boards. Gypsum is probably more readliy available.

  • These are the main types and use. From the cheapest to the dearest where i live at least :)
  • Plasterboard is the 'common' type used to line stud partitioning, ceilings and used in dry lining. Simply a layer of hardened plaster sandwiched between two layers of paper.
  • Insulated board is a bit more than just plasterboard, it comes with a layer of insulating foam attached to the rear side to improve the thermal insulation of the room.
  • Damp proof board has a damp proof membrane attached to the rear side, usually coloured silver and looking like kitchen foil.
  • Moisture resistant board is slightly different in that the actual plaster is resistant to moisture ingress and should be used in bathrooms, showers, kitchens and other damp areas where it is likely to come into contact with (although not immersed in) water.
  • Sound insulation board is constructed to reduce the transmission of noise.
  • Fire resistant board offers increased resistant to fire - by the nature of plasterboard, the standard type offers some degree of fire barrier but fire resistant board has an enhanced barrier effect.

for a standard ceiling

Normally 9.5mm boards are used in ceilings to reduce the weight on ceiling joists, fixings and on the installer.
In kitchens and bathrooms generally you would use foil back board for moisture / condensation control. All other areas you can use the standard paper backed boards.

12.5mm boards are the standard board used for ceilings!

It is generally recommended to use foil backed boards for all ceilings where the area above the ceiling is an unheated attic space.

asked what the types of plaster board there are ,you can only assume his use of the word standard is not based on Knowledge of ceilings or plasterboard ,so it is probably best to give him the correct information on what is available.
