Hi All,

Looking at making a career change over the next 6 months and was wondering about moving into a Management consultancy firm.
Just starting my research and i've only really got accenture as a name so far. Would like to know of other top firms out there in this line and peoples experience of them.

I'm coming from a funds background with about 4 years experience and im just completing my ACCA finals at moment. Have noticed in ACCA finals that there is a lot of focus on consultancy, especially paper 3.5 (Strategice planning). There is also a lot of other consultancy based value models etc on other papers.

So i suppose my question is would an ACCA qualification be a big plus for me if looking for a job in consultancy?

Im also hoping that I will not have to start at the bottom (graduate) when moving into this line of work and that ACCA would have given me some basis. is this realistic?

Any help/advice appreciated.

So River - the move to being a Fund Manager didn't happen ? (sorry that's probably a bit harsh!)

In my experience there is very little true "Management Consulting" in the more traditional sense of the word.

See this thread here for an interesting AAM discussion on Management Consultants and what's the definition.

What are you looking for if you want to get out of funds ? An ACCA qualified accountant can do very well in Fund Admin if he / she sticks at it. Or alternatively would you consider joining a consulting company that consults into the funds industry ?

Are you looking to change just to change or is there something fascinating and romantic about the world of consulting that is pulling you inexorably towards your destiny ?

*Declaration of bias - I am a consultant

hehehe still an option, but having recently read & studied some info regarding Mgt consultancy im being drawn into it. I love that whole core competency, strategic advantage, synergy talk, i know its very airy fairy but i think there is a lot of sense behind it when applied correctly.

Just cant review another fund to be honest. Im doing pretty well already considering my slight of year but just want to get into something where im making (or at least advising) on mgt/strategic decisions. I would definitely be interested in a role advising the funds industry. i have nothing against the industry and it prob employs 50% of all business graduates in this country but just need something different.
Do any mgt consultants specialise in advising funds or are they all pretty varied in the industries they provide services for?

And as a consultant, would you be pigeon holed in a company and given a particular area of expertise?

cheers
