Hi, A company here in the south called a meeting with their staff on tuesday, The staff were told they would receive a once off payment of approx 1000.00 euro each to give up one of their daily breaks and would have to sign an agreement accepting this today wednesday, Most of them are not happy about this and are afraid of not accepting the offer, Has anyone advice on this as they are not union members.

What kind of advice are you looking for? How many staff are there? Is it possible to arrange a meeting and decide collectively how to proceed?

To summarise

The company want to change existing work practices (which they are entitled to do, if it is lawful)
To get agreement and buy-in from staff company are willing to offer €1K to each staff member.
Staff must agree and sign up without any consultation period.

Staff options are
Sign agreement and receive €1K after tax
Band together and request a formal review period where each side can discuss what is needed and how to handle the changes going forward and negotiation on the value of a lost paid work-break
Don't sign agreement and have the change imposed on you without any compensation.

It would be best if your company had asked for a consultation in advance but you may still get this if you request another meeting and suggest options that may suit employees better and still create the change in work practice.
ie staggered breaks; clock in/clock out for breaks, add extra 15 min to work day etc etc.

Thank you for your replies as always, The staff refused to sign up to the new working conditions and the company backed off, I did contact employment rights on their behalf also and so did some staff members , It seems the company were outside of their rights to force this through, Again thank you for your help, Regards Salaried.
