Third World charitable donations question

Hi. I am a PAYE worker and contribute to a Staff Third World Fund out of my wages. My wife is self employed. We are jointly assessed for tax every year.
The administrators have now come asking me to help them claim tax relief on the annual donations, as it is over €250
I don't think I can do this as my wife is self employed, and we are jointly assessed, but I am not 100% sure.

Would it be possible to NOT have these charitable donations considered for the self assessment at the end of the year, and to sign the form allowing the charity to receive the tax relief instead ?

Just a thought. It may not be possible.

The new rules mean that self employed can't benefit on the tax relief on charitable donations. It has to go to the charity or not at all. There is a form that the self employed person fills in called a CHY3 enduring certificate that lets the revenue know that the charity is to get the tax relief at a rate of 30% on donations over €250 a year
