can anyone tell me if there is anything written in stone in any of the Regs if an employer must give you X amount of notice (ie. week or month) before they reduce your salary

It might be worth contacting [broken link removed] on this. They also have a LoCall contact number listed on their site.

what would happen if an employee refused a pay reduction? If it was a case of take it or leave would they be entitled to redundancy? would this be considered a Voluntary redundancy or Compulsory?

It depends what the company does upon your refusal. If it went ahead with a unilateral reduction in your pay, you would be entitled to do one of the following:

A] Resign, and make a claim for constructive dismissal to the EAT. You would be required at least to 1. utilise the company grievance procedure and 2. notify the company that you were working under protest.

B] Make a claim to a Rights Commisioner for Illegal Deduction of Wages, per the Payment of Wages Act.

C] Make a claim under common law for breach of contract. Again, as in A] You would be required at least to 1. utilise the company grievance procedure and 2. notify the company that you were working under protest.

thanks, just curiosity as it's a conversation that is coming up these days. Unfortunately I am not in a position to take a pay cut at the mo due to a lack of gainful employment.
