Removed gas fire should I see a dampner

Hi

I got my gas fire removed by an Rgi so that I can lit a real fire. I'm all set up to get a real once going but wondering should I see a dampner. I can't see one up the chimney. Do all chimneys have them, the house is 20 years old and in an estate.

If it doesn't have one is it a big deal?

There isn't one put in with a gas fire for safety. Carbon monoxide.

If there is one in the chimney it should be removed if possible or locked open on the install of a gas fire
