Changing insurer while getting treatment

I am looking at the possibility of extensive tests and possible treatment in the very near future. At the same time, my currently quite extensive health insurance is due for renewal, and I have to switch to minimal cover, probably from a different insurer, due to huge premium increases.

How will the two insurers handle the claims? If I am diagnosed within my current insurance period, who pays? Will I keep cover at the higher level, or do my entitlements drop as soon as I switch?

(And why does health insurance need to be so confusing?)

If you are switching down, you should be alright, they have to continue the cover.

There are over 350 different plans out there, so yes, it is incredibly confusing. If you want assistance in choosing a plan, drop me an email at [email protected] and I will forward you the details of the specialist health insurance broker I use.
