Sink push stopper

We have a bathroom sink with a close/open push stopper. It won't push stop and we have taken it out temporarily and put a rubber stopper in its place. Is it possible to repair these stoppers or does it need to be completely replaced. It is about 3 years old.

Easy enough to replace the full waste fitting. Should cost no more than ~€15 from a builders providers / plumbing suppliers. If your sink has a moulded in overflow connection that doesn't use a separate hose connection, make sure you get a slotted waste, otherwise, go for non-slotted.
