Hi,

just a quick question about tax, maybe it just everyone is feeling the pinch at the moment and i feel what i take home is barely meeting whats needed.

My situation is my wife is not working, she did earn 4,000 euro in dfsa from social welfare up until the beginning of may this year but her stamps have run out. We are assessed as married.

I calculated my total income for this year will be
52252.76 the total tax i will have paid is 7576 tax for 2010. I applied for a credit for stay at home wife in february, however whatever it did to my tax i paid an extra 500 euro in tax that month, revenue could not understand and neither could pay roll, their awnser was if i was due tax back i could claim at the end of the year. Needless to say february was a very hard month.

So after this i asked for my wife credit to be taken away and perfect the next month the money in my salary returned to normal.

I just wonder does anyone think that 7576 tax will have been a bit much for a one income family. Maybe i am wrong querying this.

I know i have also about 800 euro in medical bills also, i will claim for these under p21 in january.

Any help much appreciated.

Kindest Regards
Fred.

Done rough cal(without medical expenses)

OPTION A(couple 1 income family)

45,400*20%= 9080
10,852*41%= 4449
Total 13,529
less

Married 3660
Paye 1830
Stay Home 900
Total 6390

Net Tax Due 7139

OPTION b (couple 2 income family)

49,400*20%= 9880
6,852*41%= 2809
Total 12689
less

Married 3660
Paye 1830
Stay Home 0
Total 5490

Net Tax Due 7199

Assume you have paye credit and wife social welfare taxable

The above is rough and others please correct if wrong
