Hi all,
We're applying for a mortgage, and bank wants P60's over last number of years.

One of these years I was on state maternity benefit for 6 months, as employers wouldn't pay mat leave. Therefore half of the year I was on my normal income, and the second half it was mat benefit.

My question is do the banks take your state mat leave income into account?
I always thought that SW benefits were not considered as part of mortgage application, but if they don't take mat benefit into account, surely this is discrimination?

Thanks in advance

Why would it be discrimination? Its only for 6 months. It wouldnt give a true underwriting picture.

The answer to your question is "No" you will not be discreminated against because you took maternity leave. The P60's are required to prove your permanent salary. the year of maternity leave may be questioned by the Bank but the explanation should satisfy them in confirming that it was not relevant to your ongoing pay.
