Would anyone know what is the situation is when you submit an income tax return on renatl income form 11S a few days late but your total liability is a loss. How do they apply 5% penalty?
I am PAYE worker with rental income in a loss. I am waiting on a statement of social welfare payments for 2013 so my return will be delayed. Will I incur a penalty if my total rental income is a loss and I have paid PAYE. I am also going to claim back tuition and health expenses.

Also,if I post the tax return to themon 31st October but it doesnt reach Revenue until next week will that be ok? How strict are they when it is just a day or 2 late?

Can you not sign up for ROS and use the additional time to get your ducks in a row? No idea how the penalty applies on a loss.

There's no penalty if there is no liability

The only situation where there can be a penalty if there is no liability is if you are a proprietory director submitting the return late and the penalty % is then applied to your PAYE liability before deductions for payments made is applied
