I have to highlight this, 50 million on irish water consultants and not a bean for flood defences.

Makes me weep.

Where are all the local TD's now??

... and €33,000,000 of taxpayers money lost to a developer because the OPW and Dept. of the Environment couldn't get their act together regarding a land swap deal.

The Dept of the Environment will have to pay 40% of this award - that's again a huge amount of money which could have been devoted to flood defence systems and assisting people with damaged properties.

It's outrageous for secretary general of the Department of the Environment, Geraldine Tallon, to say that "hindsight is 20/20" in relation to the disastrous events surrounding the non-sale of Harcourt Street garda station.

In the real world heads would roll, but as usual there will be no consequences for the loss.

So the successful implementation of flood defences in Clonmel and Kilkenny, both of which suffered horrendous repeated floods in the past were done for 'not a bean'. And the ongoing flood works at Ennis were done for 'not a bean'.

Eaten bread is soon forgotten it seems.

Don't forget Carlow - huge job of work there seems to have paid off thankfully. Given the amount of water that has ended up falling in the last month or so the whole town should be floating gently down the Barrow by this stage!
