UK based online betting company issue

Does anyone know if there is any formal complaint procedures in Ireland for complaining about online betting companies? I deposited funds to a well known online betting facility last week. Immediately after doing so I got an email speel saying that the funds had been locked and I needed to provide proof of home address, identity and a front and back copy of my Credit card (???). I emailed back stating I would have a serious issue with the last item requested, I have never heard of any company looking for a customer to send a photocopy of their credit card. Anyway, I got no reply for 4 days, bar the account then being inexplicably locked. Then I forwarded this email onto a separate customer service email address. 2 days later, no reply. I then forwarded it on again yesterday, strongly worded. Still no reply. Is there no comeback on this? Shockingly bad customer service. I have already advised the credit card company of the issue.

It's normal for some high risk sectors to request this. We've done it at work for some orders that were flagged as high risk.

There's no extra information that they can get from a photocopy of the card that you haven't given them anyway, they just want to see proof that you have the actual card.

I suspect most betting sites would be the same with first time credit card deposits.

Standard practice for all gambling sites really.

Actually it's not standard practice for online betting companies to request copies of credit cards. However a couple of sites do request them so you must have opened an account with one of those. It's not something I would be concerned about TBH.

Today alone I've had to do this process twice , I reckon I've sent copies of my credit/debit card to over a few hundred different bookmakers. I am/have been a member a customer of a few hundred different bookmakers/casinos in the last few years and this is requested alot probably about 25% of the time , I've never had any implications from sending it in, nearly all the emails they send asking for it state you can block the middle 8 numbers.

Some stranger requests I've had from bookmakers/casinos
Please send a photo of yourself holding your passport/driving licence
Please send a photo of yourself holding todays newspaper in one hand and your passport /driving licence in the other , please make sure we can see the date on the newspaper and also the date of birth and photo on the passport and your face holding them up.

I've argued over the years that bookmakers should do there ID checks before they let you deposit but they would never do it , when you go to withdraw its when you get problems , most books are regulated in Malta or Cuaraco or Isle of Man , mainly Malta , you have to contact the LGA(lottieries and gaming assocition in Malta) and they take forever to get back to you, I had 20k stolen from me from a well known bookmaker and I am 2 years waiting for the LGA to look into it, send the documents they requested is my advice its the easiest way.

Hello,

Have you telephoned them to see if you can contact them and perhaps resolve the issue ? ... perhaps if you don't want to provide copy of your credit card, you can agree satisfactory alternative identidy verificaton ?

Assuming that doesn't get you sorted, then see where they are regulated and put a complaint into the relevant regulator - some of the larger UK operations are actually regulated in Gilbraltar for example, so you can complain to the regulator there.

Another option may be to ask casinomeister.com to help you.

I take it you've already asked your credit card company to suspend the lodgement on the grounds that the purchase is "in dispute" etc
