Home House insurance when absent from house

Hello all,

My work circumstances mean I will be living away from my house - for maybe up to 6 months at a time.

I want to hold onto my house as it is my home etc and dont really want to rent it out as i will need somewhere to live when not working.

I was planning on leaving regular house insurance in place, turning off the water at mains in winter and asking a neighbour to take an odd look at it.

Is there any specialist insurance I could get or should i do as i planned?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Ring your current insurance provider and they will advise you.

I have a holiday home ... classed as such by my insurer because I don't live there full time. They have lists of conditions attached to the insurance.

Most standard policy wordings exclude cover for damage for most (not all) insured risks if the property has being unoccupied for more than 30 consecutive days. You need to either change the status to holiday home (comes with conditions like water turned off etc) and pay a slightly higher premium or get someone to live in the house whilst you are away
