Hi

Can you please help with a question on whether I am allowed to claim capital allowances on capital expenditure against my profits for a small business and if so what is the rate? I am just registered for income tax.

Also is there a definition of what is classed as capital expenditure?

Thanks

Mike

Generally 15% over 6 years and 10% over last year. Check out the Revenue.ie website for detailed info.

12.5% for plant and machinery, fixtures & fittings, cars and vans
4% for industrial buildings.
Once its in use at your year end, it should qualify.

I think 44brendan is referring to property incentive schemes.

Please PM me if you have any further queries.

Why PM?

Why not post further queries here for all to read, learn and possibly contribute?

Should have said:
Capital allowances are quite a large area. If you can post specific details of your asset(s), you will get a more consise answer. If you can't, feel free to PM me with your specific details.

I contend still that is dangerous to rely on advice received by PM. I suggest also that it is contrary to the spirit of AAM.

The following link [broken link removed] should give you access to a Revenue Booklet that will address all of your queries.
