I see two announcements from lenders this week about switching mortgages.

KBC
  • Now offering to take on switcher mortgages for qualifying applicants up to 90% of current value.
  • Will also look at mortgage switchers including additional borrowing for renovations.
  • Offer of €1,000 cash-back for switchers extended to 31st December 2014.
  • Offer of a year's free house insurance for new mortgage customers also extended to 31st December 2014.

Haven
Now also accepting switcher mortgage applications - this wasn't an area they'd do previously. No news of any incentives. Their release today says that their normal residential criteria applies, which presumably means maximum 92% up to €400,000.

Usual caveat continues to apply - as tracker mortgages are no longer available for new customers, then you need to be aware that the lender offering the best rates now may or may not be so in the future.

this is all well and good,
but if you're an ordinary "joe" they wont give you a second look.

who has €20k to put on another house??

just a thought.

...........

You are probably correct but they are not looking for ordinary Joes business.
They are cherrypicking what they now see as safer longer term mortgages.
If all the (safer) mortgages are taken out , Mr Joe Soap will then pay even more to cover Mr Soaps riskiness.
Such is capitalism !
