Vat and zero rated materials

Hi,

I am a sole trader currently with an e-commerce business. All purchases so far have been from international buyers, and I sell documents, in pdf form.

Business is going well, and so I will probably need to register for VAT - so there is the threshold for goods at €75,000, unless they are from zero rated materials. I queried revenue, and they said this was for childrens clothes/shoes etc.

The revenue site gives this info file:///C:/Users/DarthShortall/Downloads/sch-2-zero-rated-activities%20(1).pdf

and I am confused about the international trading...

So, do I need to register as I've crossed the €37.5k mark, or wait until €75k.

I would advise contacting an accountant. VAT is tricky. What kind of customers are you selling to, and where exactly are they?

Normally CEOs 3cSuite management and business development managers from pharma companies.
Clients are based all over the place but the USA, Japan, Germany And france are the main geographies

Charging VAT

Fun

The previous post is correct.

You must be very careful, or you could find yourself with a VAT liability.

You must look at your goods/service and see if is is a VATable service/good.
If so , you must charge VAT unless the recipient has a VAT number. If you do not you may be liable for VAT and serious fines.

There is a difference between Zero vat and VAT exempt.

You may also have to register for VIES reporting.

Please seek professional advice.

If I can help, please PM.
