I rang Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council's water department with a query about a private contractor taking water from the public mains. I was told to contact Irish Water about this that they had nothing to do with public water any more. I felt I was being fobbed off.
Why would the local councils still have a need for a department that deals with water if they are going to refer everyone to Irish Water?

Why do you feel you were being fobbed off? Irish Water are the responsible authority now for the issue you wanted to report.

Local authorities still have a number of water related responsibilities, the public mains system is no longer one of them. Business account , surface water drainage and flood management issues still go through the council though.
