Dáil Petitions Committee hearing on Ombudsman

Its being about a couple of years. My petition and another persons has brought a lot of heat on both the Central bank and FSO and the problems with lack of consumer protection in this country.

I do actually expect a lot to change as a result of this. So if everyone else is unhappy submit a petition too.

The reception from the committee is very open and there is a clear cross party interest in sorting things out.

Brendan Howlin has agreed to look at extending FOI to Central Bank.

The Oireachtas are examining the professional secrecy obligations of the Central Bank and in particular the way in which the CB use Section 33AK to deny information in the public interest.

The FSO and CB have been pulled into many committee meetings to explain themselves.

FLAC were also called in as a result of these petitions...their report is very hard hitting and a reflection of what we have been saying on these boards for some time
