In January I will pay the balance of a holiday to a UK company. I paid the small deposit in sterling for expediency's sake but wonder how to settle the remainder : EUR or GBP?

Thanks,
HMC

The credit card company usually gives more favourable £ to € exchange rates, so I'd ask the travel firm to charge your card in Sterling.

Just beware that they do not charge extra for payment by credit card.

I booked with a travel agent a couple of years ago and was charged 2% which I eventually got refunded, but after a lot of grief.

In my experience, when you buy online and they offer the cost in Euro it works out more expensive than if you pay in the local currency of the website.

For example, I was buying an item from a well renown website in the UK and the cost was £96 and they were offering it to me for €117; when I paid in sterling and I checked my statement a few days later it was €112.
