Change of ownership form question

I'm just about to try selling vehicle privately, who post's off the change of ownership form, the buyer or the seller ?
I've had a change of ownership issue before when I traded in a car to a main dealer. At a later date the Gardai were after me for parking fines.

If you are selling it privately, then you send it off and if selling to a dealer then you give it( the VRC) to him to send off and fill in a different form ( http://www.environ.ie/en/LocalGovernment/MotorTax/PublicationsDocuments/FileDownLoad,493,en.pdf).

I'd recommend that the seller post it off... car is still the sellers until the change of form is processed...

You are mistaken Jazz01......the car becomes the purchasers once it is fully paid for (notwithstanding any outstanding debt to a lending agency etc.) and usually, but not always, a receipt/bill of sale is provided by the vendor.

The change of name on the VRC is simply recording that fact, ie. that change of ownership HAS taken place on the date noted.
 
Thanks lad's for the answers. Theoretically it should be sent by the buyer but it would be safer for the seller to post it.
