Children viewing unsuitable TV programmes

I was shocked to see that a 14 year old girl's favourite TV programme is Game of Thrones as highlighted in an RTE news feature last Sunday. It is very violent and has frequent sexual scenes. Would you let your 11 year old watch it? The series began in 2011. The girl who is being given a treat by the Bubblegum Club appears 20 mins into the news item, after the sports.

She may have only started watching it recently. I guess she watches lots of box sets in hospital. Seemed like a nice kid. In any event I'd have thought GoT was a 16+ show. The whole thing was garish and a bit of a PR exercise for the charity . . why were the Gardaí involved, why was it a news story? anyway . .

I'm a big fan of sex and violence in film and TV (particularly the former) but Game of Thrones is definitely cert15 or 16.
