Apologies if this question has already been answered.

A group of us have been made reduntant from a company X.
We are entitled to one months notice and statutory redunancy. We do not have to work for the notice period.

Notice period with company X ends at the end of this month.

A few of us have been offered work with another company Y.
We would have to start straight away.

My question is can we stay on payrolls from both company X and Y for this month?
Getting paid by both companies for the month.
Having a conisderable cut in salary we could do with the extra cash.

AFAIK - If you choose not to work your notice you get the money tax free. You stated you have the choice not to work your notice so I dont see why not. Try the DOE for clarification regarding this though. They respond well to any mail questions.

Yes - the DETE are very helpful and reponsive and provide a very good service in my experience. Also, the OASIS and DETE employment rights links in might be of some help.

some answers

Thanks for all the info.
I tried DETE site. It is very informative . Unfortunately I could not post a question for some tecnical reason.

A friend gave me some financial advise though.
What you need to do is stay on Company X's payroll for the notice period. Start work with Company Y but ask them to put you on emergency tax. Once officially ceased employment with company X you get your P45 and give that straight away to company Y.
