Ryanair now allowing people to use their phones during take off and landing

Yipeee. So now for the 5 minutes of take-off and the 5 minutes of landing we can give somebody a running commentary (and those passengers unfortunate enough to be seated nearby). How did we manage until now with being unable to phone somebody during this 10 minute window in our day?

As far I know, the phone has to be in airplane mode so calls can't be made. Thankfully. It just means that people can use their phones for offline work.
 
Electronic devices will include e-readers so that is good news - I can continue reading as we land (to distract from the landing!)
