10 Year Fixed Rate Mortgage

Hi All,

I am currently researching which banks are offering a 10 year plus fixed mortgage. So far I have only seen one bank NIB that offers a fixed rate mortgage for 10 years. Does anyone know of any other banks that offer a 10 year plus fixed mortgage?

Also does any one have any advice if going down the 10 year fixed interest route is a good idea? I am a potential first time buyer and want to cover myself from interest rate hikes for the first few years of my mortgage.

You may want, or need, to sell within those 10 years and could face a hefty penalty to break such a fixed agreement. AIB used to do 10 year fixed rates but I don't see such on their website any longer. I'll be looking for a mortgage in the 2012 and will strongly consider a 50/50 split 5 year fixed/variable rate mortgage with AIB, thus halving my exposure to rate fluctuations.
