Motor over 75 yrs and policy is more expensive

I have been searching around for car insurance for my Dad who is 77 it seems if over 75 the policy is more expensive , been told it it part of criteria for insurance companies, I thought this would be some form of ageism against older people, is this legal

Perfectly legal - in the same way as under 25's pay higher premium.
