One of the two small packages expected arrived today. It will be Monday at least before the second arrives, that is if there's a Monday delivery any more in this area. |

yep. practical van hire seem to be on half the vans around dundalk at the moment with a few red ones from red van hire in cavan. my dad was a postie and hes on the pension for about 10 years now. has only received a 5% increase in his already meagre pension in the past 3 years. and hes not entitled to free electricity, free fuel, free tv licence, free telephone, he has free travel ok. Social welfare old age pensioners get a rise every budget of around €10 per week. he hasnt got this in 3 years. hes on a defined benefit pension ( although when he was working he didnt know this, just knew he retired after 40 years on half pay) and I get the feeling from him the current staff know that they will be treated pretty badly too when they retire so they (unlike his generation) dont appear to care a great deal about their work anymore.

legend:I ordered live aid dvd from cd wow hong kong site for €29.99, it was advertised as region 2. I received region 1. By this time the dublin shops etc were charging €54 for region 2. I contacted cdwow and informed them that they stated it was region 2 on their site ( this site was now showing dvd as region 1) when orginally advertised for sale. they forwarded me region 2 within two weeks with a note to return first dvd to an address in England. When someone plays ball with you its only fair to play ball back. I have no doubt I will receive the 2nd cd within the next few weeks. to cap it all anyway its not for me. its for one of the terrible two and you definitely wouldnt want two copies of it . ( hard fi - cctv -never heard of them or it)

I think that they're delivering twice a week in our area. It's north county dublin. It's kind of intermittent as my next door neighbour receives their post in differing days to us. It seems as if the postman is choosing the post he takes with him due to the size of his postbag!

This explains why it is taking months to sort out some business with a Dublin solicitor (I am in the UK). If this is the postal situation she is not to blame for the unbelievable delays in her responses (she's Dublin).

I wouldn't jump to conclusions there Marie. I have not noticed any problems with the postal deliveries in Dublin 7. Perhaps I am not alone?

I rang the Blackrock sorting office in Dublin to enquire as to why I had not received any post last Mon/Tues/Wed. I was told that we had no staff and were relying on existing postmen to do double shifts. On Thursday I received the 3 days letters in one go. He gave me a number in head office to ring 1850 575859 to register my complaint. Apparently there is an embargo on the recruitment of new staff. I also received post last Saturday (Thursday and Fridays).

Rainyday
re 84 postmen didnt stamp a card only covered for occupational injuries, widows pension and nothing else. they are not entitled to social welfare pensions. anyone joining An Post now has to stamp a full card but they dont get a defined benefit pension. he will be getting one of those doctor only medical cards though and as hes going to be over 70 when his tv licence is up he will get it free next time. I am not excusing the poor delivery standards by the way. I think An Post management bought into an automatic sorting system and its does not appear to be working too well.I was talking to a local postman recently and he told me that it was impossible to get new staff, nobody wanted to start work at 6am and be out in all weathers anymore, might have something to do with it I suppose. for whats it worth I got the impression that he hated junk mail more than we do.
