USD Cheque

I have a USD cheque, payable to me, for approx $14k

Is the only option that I have to gain access to this money by paying it in at my [BOI] branch, in doing this being shafted by their ludicrous FX rates & charges? Or can I (with POI/POA) go anwyehere?

What about you sign the back, and get someone you know from America (we all know someone!!) cash it to their account in the US? They could then do a wire transfer back to you. Aside from the bank's margin of 1-2% on the x-rate, it might cost you Euro60-120 for the transactions for amount - some banks have a cap of 5k euro for a single transfer.

I'm not sure if this is the best method, but would be curious also to see if anyone has any other ideas....
