Key Post How to pay your 2014 Local Property Tax

Seems to be sorted now - I've just done mine online. Still not happy that the payment dates have been moved back 6 months from this year. It seems quite disingenuous and it's things like this that makes people realise that this government are no more trustworthy than the last lot....

The final date for payment of 2014 LPT is 1st January 2014!

From my reading of the Revenue guide, the property tax for 2014 falls due in november 2013 and must be paid by 1st Jan 2014 ? Could this be right - Enda promised a 1/2 year payment in 2013 building up to a full year payment in 2014 and onwards. In fact , the revenue are now looking for 1 &...

    Revenue Form12 for 2011 ?

Things haven't changed - I have just received one of these too for 2011 , despite the fact that I had already submitted Medical expenses online and had a balancing statement for 2011 and a repayment from Revenue . If I log in now I cannot see the details for 2011 - I get a message saying...

Why does interest and capital paid vary from month to month

Calculated daily and there are different amount of days in the month. Interest should go down slightly over time as your outstanding balance reduces.

Anglo Irish Annual Regular Savings Account

Re: Anglo Irish launches new 8% Regular Savings Account What happens after the 12 months - it looks from the Ts & Cs that it you can only save for 12months - does anyone know if they will just stop taking in money but leave the lump sum on deposit at the prevailing rate (minimum ECB + 2%) ...

    XE.COM and Currency.ie

Are you using rates quoted by the banks or did you ring them ? Generally when transferring large sums your own bank (at least mine did) will give you a better deal and can call up their dealers and 'book' an up to the minute exchange rate.

How long can you drive a UK registered car in Ireland before it has to be registered?

Re: How long can you drive a UK registered car in Ireland before it has to be registe They don't seem to care too much about that - only interested in the value of it. You have to provide evidence of the purchase details i.e price/date etc but not when you brought it in. In theory if you are...

ESB bill need to pay by credit card

This is possible if you are set up for bill pay using internet banking. I have AIB and did it for curiosity one month. When you go to Pay Bill you get the option of which account to use and the visa card comes up as an option similar to the current account. There is a further advantage to the...

Generation Game- David McWilliam's take on Irish economy

The beauty of spouting economic theories like these is that there is no wrong and right or black and white. When things are very good they will inevitably get worse and when things are very bad they will definitely get better. The question is when will it happen, how long it will take, how bad...

Boss stealing from company: I'm afraid to be the whistle blower, what to do?

Agree with the above - don't automatically assume that this will be punished once reported. There is no supreme justice in operation in most companies just a series of individuals who will try to deal with a situation to the best of their ability or to their own end. This will as likely be...

No need to turn off the water. Tie the ballcock up to stop the cistern refilling. Then flush out the water that is in there.

    Neff Appliances

It's the see through doors ! I don't think my missus ever cleaned our oven until we got new neff stuff with glass doors that show up the state of the inside. ps I'm not impressed with the gas hob - very little adjustment in the flame on the rings until you get to the last 2-5% of the dial.

Buying a car in the UK

I've used Car Giant in Acton/Shepards Bush a couple of times and found them to be reliable - also know a lot of friends in London who have bought there. They make a large chunk of their money selling car finance so you may find the armies of sales staff there lose interest when they realise...

    No private pension

There is a 3 month deadline after maturity of your SSIA to avail of the pension top up but I don't know how rigid this is. The question of whether to start a private pension/PRSA at any stage depends on your personal circumstances. The main benefit to you in your mid 50s is the large proportion...
