Will dictates house to be sold - how long does executor have to sell?

Bear in mind the house can be put on the market whilst probate is taking place but the deal can't be closed until probate is finished. Depending on where you are and the competency or otherwise of your solicitor, realistically you're looking at 6-9 months minimum for that

ESRI: 2/3rds of people living in houses too big for their needs

I recall visiting a supposidly 5 bed room new build a few years back. It would have been physically impossible to get a bed into the 5th "bedroom", a cot maybe but that would be it. We are using land differently for new builds nowadays. Gardens are way smaller. I could move to be bigger and...

    McKinsey Woes, A Heartrending Story . . .

If you are talking to anyone in an Irish govt quango these days, a huge number of them have been body-shopped in from the consultancy firms as project managers, technical experts, finance etc. It must be costing a fortune

Fair Deal/Nursing Homes Fair Deal house - "nursing home loan" - better to avoid and pay out of cash assets?

Timing, a DD for the scheme was taken a couple of days after Mam had passed away

Fair Deal/Nursing Homes Fair Deal house - "nursing home loan" - better to avoid and pay out of cash assets?

We went down the road of cash assets rather then the loan. Not sure who pays the HSE but we were actually owed a refund so it was the solicitor dealing with probate who got the money paid as part of the estate. Loan is repaid to revenue so I am assuming it comes up as part of the tax clearance...

Sports Club discipline away from the club

Your question suggests a decision has already been made without an investigation occurring. After all, there are 2 sides to every story. Personally, my advice would be for the club to stay well out of any civil dispute involving the members where it is not related to the club and is not...

Return to office - but I want to remain fully remote

One of my kids visited one of the cool US tech giants a while back as part of a school trip. she said it was amazing, they had loads of restaurants, a hairdresser, a gym etc etc. Myself and my wife both laughed and asked her did she realise why all these things were there? No she answered and we...

Return to office - but I want to remain fully remote

I'm fortunate in that my company moved to remote first and we closed most of our offices around the world as a result. When we do meet up, it tends to be the most unproductive day of the week as it turns into a moan-fest/did you see the game at the weekend discussion etc. There are times when it...

Return to office - but I want to remain fully remote

Joys of working for a multinational with team members all over the world means that sitting in an office provides very little for me. What I do miss out on is the office gossip or leaning against someones desk to have a moan at the world and the Board of Directors etc. Having said that, a bunch...

Return to office - but I want to remain fully remote

Agreed, if you are up the line and you have a manager with a litany of complaints coming in against him, it tends to raise some serious alarms bells. He may not end up getting sacked but I have seen it happen where they are encouraged to consider career options elsewhere, sometimes being paid...

Return to office - but I want to remain fully remote

I work from home but my employer has a clear policy on homeworking. On occassions, I have to go visit clients and a number of us get together in a remote hub once every couple of months to build relationships etc. Without knowing what the OP does and what their role is the starting point should...

    Ireland is full.

In fairness, in some countries (Uganda is a case in point), being gay can be punishible by life imprisonment or in extreme cases, it is a capital offence. Even campaigning for rights can see someone imprisoned for 20 years. Having said that, there is often a hypocrisy in the West. After all...

    Ireland is full.

Why do so many Irish people go to Australia or Canada or the US and end up overstaying their visa's.? What's the difference between them and an economic refugee coming to Ireland?. The use of "undocumented" for Irish people in the US annoys me, they are illegal immigrants to the US.

Can I refuse to have my ESB Meter replaced with a Smart Meter?

Usual appalling journalism from the Indo. People have been sent estimated bills because the smart meter connectivity is poor, which for anyone who lives in rural Ireland is probably no surprise. Report does not say the meters are giving innaccurate readings, just that people are getting...

Advice on early retirement due to ill health

First things first, resolve the social welfare issue and if he is getting nowhere, then Citizens Advice should be able to advise. Secondly, define "retire". There is nothing to stop him resigning right now if he wanted to but if he is looking to draw down on a pension early, then HR and the...

    Clearing an Ulster Bank Mortgage

Just to update on what has happened. Rang Ulster on the Feb 29th, very helpful Scottish chap (these are all being dealt with out of Edinburgh is my understanding) looked it up on line and basically said "oops, this should have been sorted by now, sorry" and set the wheels in motion. he said a...

    Advice for 1st time buyer

I presume she has fallen into the 3.5 time earning rules.? There are exceptions to that and it might be worth speaking to a broker as to the art of the possible but it is only going to increase her pot by perhaps 20-30k Citizens Advice might be the best place to start off...

No probate official in Limerick /will/Probate now gone to Dublin and no update, Advice please

Went through probate last year in Cork, took 3-4 months but solicitor warned me that if it had gone to Dublin, it was going to take a minimum of 6 months to complete. Am I correct in saying that the solicitor has submitted everything and not heard anything back and can't be bothered chasing to...

“Wind turbine opportunity: good or bad?

I'd happily support w I'd happily support wind power as long as it was quiet, didn't disturb my view, didn't interfere with my TV, broadband or mobile signal and didn't cause the bog/mountain etc to collapse or inadvertainly cause flooding. If you ask the right question in a poll, you'll get...
