    Dividends, withholding tax, revenue forms

On the basis that the dividends are likely to be taxable at 41% plus levies etc, I would have thought that it's unlikely that the DWT/encashment tax plus any foreign tax would cover your liability?

    Aer Lingus- Tricksters.

You're not even comparing apples and pears...you're comparing apples and sunglasses. The comment you're referring to relates to Ryanair staff trying to trick passengers into believing that their hand luggage doesn't meet the relevant size rules. Thank you for educating us on how to secure a...

    Aer Lingus- Tricksters.

But if Aer Lingus had just applied their 25% offer to those €9.99 each way flights, that's what you would have saved...€5. I don't understand what you were hoping to achieve?

Tax relief and expenses for self employed what can be claimed back?

+1 Crazy advice from spindizzy...almost 100% wrong and dangerously misleading in places.

Buy out sibling share of house without a mortgage

Beware of any possible gift tax implications. You may end up giving your sister an interest free loan.

revenue audit, unpaid income tax and penalties

I'm shocked at your analysis to be honest. The qualifying disclosure and penalties regime is pretty fair in my view. Sympathy for the guy's family aside, he's behaved like a clown and scammed us all. He's had the free use of €90k while everyone else was paying their share.

    Parent to Child Gift Threshold

It's €3,000 per parent. It's not necessary to inform Revenue. The €3,000 gifts are disregarded for aggregation purposes.

Postgrad Fees - Tax deductable for self-employed?

Forgive my ignorance, but what's "visual arts practice"? In order to get a Case I (i.e. trading) deduction for an expense, it must be wholly and exclusively incurred for the purposes of the trade. If the MA in visual arts practice is clearly going to benefit your photography business and is...

is it worth accepting medical Insurance as BIK

Each credit is applied the year for which it arises. For example, if your employer paid health insurance of €1,600 for you during 2009 (and treated €2,000 as the BIK), you'd receive a refund of €400 in respect of 2009. GoldDigga seems to be indicating that his/her employer has treated the...

    Directors' Salaries

She's a director of the company. Best of luck to Revenue if they try and shoot that one down. In the circumstances of a one man band where the husband and wife are directors, there's a word for a couple that don't maximise their standard rate cut off points - Idiots.

Ryanair - carry on bag wrong size - 40 Euro charge

People need to fight back when these clowns try and shaft them. If your bag fits into the cage, tell them in no uncertain terms where to go if they start claiming that there are other criteria. "You can't have straps making your bag smaller" - Who thinks these things up?

    decorating and tax returns?

It shouldn't be an issue for the property owner. If it was me, I'd make sure that I had receipts and that the cost of the painting stacked up (i.e. arms length pricing was applied) but there's nothing prohibiting it.

Excellent article about farmers doing pre-nups

I'm not a lawyer, but I've been present at meetings where lawyers from the biggest firms have asserted that prenuptual agreements are meaningless in Ireland.

    decorating and tax returns?

Yes - It is deductible Yes - The arrangement you're proposing would be fine from your perspective. I'd make sure to have the receipts for the paint too just to copperfasten things. How your friend treats the income is his business.

    Property as pension

I'd echo the sentiments of other posters. You should aim to have a diversified pension portfolio. If everything you have is tied up in property, you're massively exposed to volatility in (say) the rental market or the property market generally. You should also ensure that you're building...
