    Tax refund after getting married.

I can't seem to find the answer to this. In relation to Getting married it says online tax jointly assessed is calculated from date of marriage. I won't use a lot of credits this year as I was out of work and on a low income- would my spouse only get the credits for a quarter of the year (date...

Tax cert or p45- returning to work

I have just returned to work after a period interning and in college unpaid. Now I have to get a tax cert to give to my job apparently but from looking online my most recent 2012 p45 is no use. Is this correct? The certificate of tax credits appears to be only for first time employees. I called...

New Government scheme to help first time buyers - Advice to avoid

The standard of high density housing is appalling in Dublin. I lived in a beautiful block, huge apartments, couldn't hear a sound from neighbors, great privacy the way it was set up back from a main road in it's own grounds, but the were built sometime in the 90s. I would never have considered...

    Tax on gifts and thresholds

Thanks Brendan. So there is no issue with him putting forward more money than me - is that not a "gift" in a joint tenancy? Edit: I just saw your bit about the agreement! We are getting married soon, I'm probably getting ahead of myself thinking we'll have the house before then, so either way...

    Tax on gifts and thresholds

Hello all. I'm hoping you can answer a tax question for me. Fiance and I intend to buy a house. I am on a very low wage at the moment so it may be a case he needs to apply for mortgage on his own and transfer the property into joint names (tax free) when we are married anyway. His parents...

A professional needs to keep a house befitting his/her professional status?: liveline

Jim Stafford's comments were outrageous but sadly I sense some truth in them. The Insolvency legislation that so many people have been waiting for has been set up in a way that will assist "professionals" with decent incomes, a family home and a few investment properties. I imagine they will...

    Harvey Norman Returns

I bought a Babyliss Big Hair dryer and it burnt out. I note that on the Harvey Norman site there is information about sending faulty good for repair, waiting times etc. Would this be common or would I be likely to get a new one? I don't want to be hanging around for a repair of something...

    Mortgage single income

I am studying at the moment and will be on a very low wage next two years. In terms of approval, would my partner be better to get a mortgage now on his own? We are getting married next year, and I will be on very low / no income depening on course

    Wedding Recommendations

Any suggestions for a wedding abroad? I am thinking of going away and was hoping it would cut costs but looking at the algarve it appears fairly expensive. Obviously we'll have less people but still up to 100. I will be saving money on the dress, flowers, cars etc as I have no intention of...

    Inheritance Tax Deadlines and Penalties

I understand that Inheritance tax has to be paid in a certain period (is it 4 months) from date of valuation but what if you have no money to pay upfront? We have been left an estate, some people got quite large % and have no cash - we need to sell the house as the largest asset to get the...

Yes, it is sibling of testator. Thanks for replies.

    Contesting a Will

Am I right in thinking that if there is a validly executed will, made when a person was of sound mind (verifable by medical professional), then a sibling would have no real grounds to contest a will?

    Tax - Leaving job

Would appreicate some help. I am leaving my job halfway through October. Will my pay cheque be half my usual take home, or will it be more than half due to credits etc? I am struggling to work it out. I presume USC, pension levy, Spouse and Children etc are only based on what you earn to date...

    mortgage holiday?

Based on my experience (I volunteer an dhear this a lot) the banks won't engage with you until you are in arrears. be careful about this, as if you have a mortgage holiday written into your mortgage agreement you are breaking the terms of the contract by going into arrears and they don't have to...

"there's an offer of xxx..." is there a truth obligation

No they didn't tell us, after many weeks the property had not gone sale agreed we hoped they might have gone away so we called to see what the story was and heard they had dropped it. Sale agreed now. BOO:(

"there's an offer of xxx..." is there a truth obligation

In my (limited) experience they are telling the truth. We were looking at a property, the OH and others were convinced there was no other interested party and the alleged offer was made up. We put in a lower offer and said come back to us if the other offer falls through. The "phantom"...

"Banks want State to put Mortgage Strugglers into penury"

If it is a couple, would it be 188x2 = 376 a week after mortgage? It's approx 1616 a calandar month? Not saying I agree, but it might be fairer to have some sort of a line - all people in arrears / struggling should be left with X amount minimum after the mortgage.
