Barclays London bank account - EUR/GBP/USD options

Not sure what offshore.barclays.com is and I thought the iBank Saver was not on offer any more. It might be kosher but be careful of spoof sites. barclayswealth.com is the one I know. Phone number on that page and ask.

Barclays London bank account - EUR/GBP/USD options

easiest thing is to call them and ask (have found their phone banking very good). not sure about minimum balances. but yes - barclays wealth can open you accounts for different currencies including USD or GBP. If you already have an account with them it should be pretty simple to do over...

Barclays London bank account - EUR/GBP/USD options

Easy to transfer between accounts (all currency accounts are shown). Your account will be covered by the scheme in operation wherever you choose to domicile your account out of their options when you open the account (see their web pages for list). I asked what would happen in event of...

    Transferring money to the North

True but it wouldn't be the first time it had happened - did a quick google search and found this example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Solution_Money_Transfer. To what extent are these companies regulated in Ireland?

    Non Euro Country USD acc

AFAIK (and i'm no expert...), isle of man and other offshore locations have guarantees with very low cap on total payouts in case of failure (as opposed to guarantees on individual payout which are same).

    financial advice for savings.

I've been fairly unimpressed with HSBC in Belfast - customer service is ropy, and EUR account is too much hassle (they won't sort out the tax for you - pay it to UK, you must reclaim it and pay DIRT here), you only get telephone not internet banking, and you get charged €5 pm. So saying...

    Non Euro Country USD acc

You can also open a USD account with Barclays Wealth either offshore or in Knightsbridge branch in London - non-Euro though still EU, in case that's of use to you...

    Transferring money to the North

Re: HSBC: Their Euro account is of limited usefulness - there is a €5 per month charge, you cannot access it via Internet banking - only telephone banking, and they won't sort out your interest tax exemption for you - they will pay it to the UK tax folk and you have to claim it back from them...

Tax liability on interest when UK deducted tax?

HSBC NI tell me they won't allow you to exempt yourself from UK tax on interest on their Euro account (International Personal Savings Account) even though they will on a Sterling account (!). What is the tax implication of this for an Irish resident? Does this mean I would need to claim back...

    Orthodontics in NI

I've been advised we should consider orthodontic treatment for my daughter. How much cheaper could I expect this to be if we were to go up and down to Newry to get it done? Has anyone come out the other end of this process, and figured out the real cost including petrol costs? Also, are you...

    Barclays Sterling Deposit Account

I've a savings account with them and have found them very good though the interest is low. When opening make sure the guard uses the exact wording Barclays ask you to use in certification to avoid delay (I mean *exact*!). No trip anywhere required. Also, you'll get a choice of account...

do you need to be there in person? Do you need to attend in person to open an account with: HSBC France, and/or Banque Populaire?

Key Post Brendan Burgess explains: How to protect your deposits

AIB limit of 5K is only for online transfers. You can do a transfer at a branch (same day if you want) for arbitrary amounts (take your passport / photo id with you as they seem to like to see that now).

Confused -Barclays, Ulster Bank or HSBC??

I have iBank saver, and in my experience it is easy to use and transfer in to. I'd call and negotiate charges when doing a transfer and see what they can do. Can't compare to Ulster Bank as don't have an account there.

Confused -Barclays, Ulster Bank or HSBC??

p.s. you can open euro, sterling or pretty much any other currency account you want with them (think euro, sterling, dollar are the initial options on forms etc.) p.p.s. they're *very* pernickity about the exact wording on garda certification of passport copies etc., so get them to use the exact...

Confused -Barclays, Ulster Bank or HSBC??

Barclays Wealth International is their "offshore" offering and is who I was meaning, but they offer you a choice of where to locate your accounts and one of those locations is the UK. So if you chose that you're covered by the UK guarantee (it's on their website and I also recently confirmed...

Confused -Barclays, Ulster Bank or HSBC??

I would also think the answer to that is yes. Also you'd be covered by the UK bank guarantee, not the ROI one which is a plus. As for Barclays, I can recommend them - account opening was slowish but fine and have found them very accessible and helpful. They have offshore offerings, but I'd...

Easy-to-open non-resident UK Savings accounts (not fixed term or Ulster Bank)?

Was happy with Ulster Bank until these threads (can't work out how to link them - sorry!): Options if Ireland has to leave the euro Will Government take deposits? (both by same poster) Am also happy with Barclays but want to spread risk over 2 banks. Hence looking for specifics on...
