Life What to do with term life assurance policy when mortgage redeemed early.

Hi all, I took out a 35 yr mortgage in 2006 (age 29), in my name only. For mortgage protection I opted for a 35 yr level term assurance policy with Hibernian (now aviva). Policy due to run until 2041, when i would be 65. Premium is 440 pr annum. House is now sold and mortgage has just been...

    French Campsite - No Refund

Its the same story with all booking for center parcs in France/Belgium/Holland (which are all owned by a French company). My understanding is that French government passed legislation allowing vouchers only so as to protect the industry. (which you can see the logic of as they would go out of...

What does the new Government have in store for the rental market?

No idea of the cost for the guarantee to be honest, but consists of set up fee and maintenance fee. all the big banks offer them - ING, KBC etc. Here's some info on ING website . For the asessor, you're looking at €300 roughly at start of lease and again at lease end, to be split 50/50 between...

What does the new Government have in store for the rental market?

Here in Belgium, the security deposit has to be lodged into a joint account and can only be released with signature of both parties. While it gives more security to the tenant to know that landlord cannot simply 'take' the deposit, in practice it is still weighted in favour of landlord since it...

Renting principal residence - do I need to change to buy to let mortgage?

My understanding is that in order to qualify for residential rates, the house was to be your PP when you were taking out the mortgage, i.e. at the start. However, unless your contract specifically provides otherwise, there is no obligation for it to remain your PPR during entire duration of the...

Mortgage repayment not dropping as much as I thought

Hi, I recently fixed my AIB mortgage at 3.5%. I have 360k borrowed over 35 years and make repayments every 2 weeks. Karl's mortgage calculator estimates that my repayments should have dropped to 686 every 2 weeks - but AIB are charging me 705. Anyone any idea why thee might be a discrepancy?

Tax Relief at Source TRS New Guidelines: all you need to know.

Hi, another dumb question if I might: Why does topping up the mortgage make a difference and extend the availability of TRS? I thought it was only available f0r 7 years from date of purchase of first property? Presumably though if you bought in 2003 as a FTB, sold in 2006 and bought again...

    TRS finished Today

I bought in Oct 2003 but had to sell in 2004. I bought again in 2006 and am now in negative equity. For TRS purposes though I am still regarded as being a First Time Buyer from 2003 so have lost the €165 per month but am far from paying a mortgage at 2003 level!!

    Local Authorities leasing social housing

It seems local authorities are now going to enter into long term leases on unoccupied housing rather than build new social housing. Does anyone know who these properties will be leased from? Are they only dealing with large developers with large numbers of properties or will they also lease from...

    Stainless Steel hot water tank

DavyJones, Re point no 2 - how good a system is this if you have a couple of bog standard gravity fed showers with fe*k all pressure but where the pipes would be a nightnare to locate individually and pump individually. If the whole system is pumped, what are pros and cons. Eg, would it affect...

Insurance policy for driving with job.

Hi, I have a car which my o/h is insured on as a named driver. She's just got a job that involves driving as part of it so I talked to the insurance co to see what the story is.
