Change of career from software to electronics

That sounds like something to follow up on. I did'nt realise that that was the case. If this was something that I find I would like to pursue then I would need to do a course to bridge the gap from where I am now (which I was going to have to do anyway). But you definitely have given me...

Change of career from software to electronics

Yeah at one point I considered that, but I would think that the embdded software, while closer to the underlying hardware, is essentially much the same in that you are programming, probably in C or some kind of assembler language. Still it is something that I could look into more. Thanks.

Change of career from software to electronics

Hi, I have been working as a software engineer (in the telecomms area) for the past 14 years, and I would like a career change. I have enough of the s/w and programming business and ideally would like to do something more practical. However I am afraid that at 38, I have left it too...

    Thailand in August

Thanks for all the replies. I don't think we'd mind if it rained during the nights or for a short period during the day, so it sounds ok. We were thinking of spending the first few nights in a nice quiet resort, e.g http://www.rockyresort.com/, and then a couple of days in chaweng for the...

    Thailand in August

Hi, Thinking of heading to Thailand in early August on the honeymoon (2 weeks). The plan is to take in Ko Samui, and somewhere else (maybe Koh Phangan), followed by a couple of days in Bangkok. I need to do a bit more research before finalising the itinery. I've searched older threads on...

    Salary for construction site foreman

Yeah, while he was self employed, he never had problem getting work, but in addition to the recent downturn meaning it is increasingly harder to get the work, in the past few months has had some problems/delays getting paid by clients. With a wife and 3 young kids he wants the security of a...

    Salary for construction site foreman

Thanks for the quick response Dinny. The work is based in the midlands. He said that the company has a lot of work planned (at least for the next two years anyway) and includes a new school extension. I think his experience is mainly with residential developments, but I'm not sure. He would...

    Salary for construction site foreman

Hi, A friend of mine has been offered a job as a site foreman. He is 36 years of age and has worked in the building indusrty all his working life, initially with his father's business and then on his own. He was asked what salary he was expecting, but since he was always self employed, he...

Bratislava / Prague / Polish cities

What will resale be like in these cities, in say 5-10 years time ? I would be afraid that, in these 'emerging markets', residential development will still be substantial in this timeframe, and resale would be difficult (i.e. sale of new builds will be more attractive for prospective buyers). I...

Leak causes wet stain on the ceiling

Thanks for the replies folks. I'm going to check the sealing around the shower and bath. I'd be happy enough if this was the source, but I'm not optimistic. Does anyone know if the plasterboard on the ceiling will dry out quickly, even though the stain will probably remain ?

Leak causes wet stain on the ceiling

Thanks for that. I called the builder today and he said he will send someone over, but it will be 2 weeks. I did'nt buy direct from the builder so he says he has no contract with me (fair enough) plus he also says that the guarantee on the house was for one year only. In any case he will have...

Leak causes wet stain on the ceiling

Hi, Any advise would be appreciated, I have a leak in a pipe running to/from the upstairs bathroom, and the leak has caused a damp stain in the ceiling (just under the upstairs wash hand basin). There is no sign of any leakage or water around the sink unit itself. The piping from the sink runs...

good music shop to buy guitar

Thanks for that. I would be hesitant about actually buying a guitar on the web as I'd want to play it first, although browsing those sites should give a better idea of brands/price etc.. I'll probably take a walk around Dublin at the w/e and visit some of those shops you mentioned. Cheers..

good music shop to buy guitar

Hi, I'm going to buy a new guitar and am planning to spend about €1000, maybe a little more, on a good brand. Most of the smaller music shops I have been to have plenty of cheaper guitars but don't have that much to choose from in the price range I am looking to spend. Where are the big music...

Skoda Octavia, 1.4 petrol - how economical ?

Hi, I'm looking at a skoda octavia - 1.4 petrol, 2004, 28,000 miles - for €13,500. It looks like good value to me, and comments about the octavia on this forum seem to be generally positive. In terms of fuel consumption, how economical are the 1.4 petrol model ?? They look a little heavy to...

    Leaseback investment Lanquedoc France

Regarding the VAT refund, be aware that this is based on 15 (or 20 ?) year ownership of the property. if you sell before 15 years, the french goverment will claw back a percentage of the VAT refund you received. I think it is 5% per year, (for each year up to the 15), but I am open to...
