    Visa refunds when abroad?

I am currently on holiday in Canada and I bought something on my Ulster Bank visa card. I was charged €24.10 after exchange rate. I had to return it 30 minutes later as it was faulty and the refund went through 30 minutes later for €23.15. I understand that foreign purchases are subject to...

Brochure Design - can I request in TIFF format?

Bear in mind that the original brochure was produced a few years back so the design company are entitled to charge a retrieval fee at the very least to dig out the artwork and send it across. Even if this only takes few minutes to complete (assuming a good back-up/archiving facility), the...

Maximum supplementary amount that can be paid for VAT

File the correct return and then just email them and say that you are having cash flow difficulties and will pay as soon as possible. I did this in January with a liability of €4,600 and they were very reasonable. They emailed back to say they were putting a hold on the account for a few...

    Great, that makes sense. Thanks!

Income Levy rate for Ltd Co. proprietary directors?

Does the 'self-assessed' Income Levy rate apply to proprietary Directors of Ltd Co.'s or is it the regular PAYE rate? In other words, if I'm taking a salary through PAYE do I need to back-date to January and use the 1.67% rate, or just continue on as normal and use the 2% rate from May 1st?

Cost of USIT flights to Canada?

Wow  I didn't know that. I suppose it is a little bigger than Ireland after all ;) I suppose it doesn't seem that bad really. Small price to pay for a 12 month adventure! BTW, just got an email today that my visa has arrived. Bring on Vancouver!

Ryanair, can you add baggage on one leg of a return

I just came back from a skiing trip to Austria where I just brought my bag as hand luggage on the way over, but because I bought ski boots over there and needed to carry them onboard for the return leg, I just checked-in at the airport and told them I had a bag to check-in. They charged me €20...

Cost of USIT flights to Canada?

Thanks. I had expected somewhere around €1,200/€1,300 so €950 is bearable. Still a rip-off compared to going alone but not as bad as I expected. I might fly to Toronto and get a train across if it works out cheaper!

Cost of USIT flights to Canada?

I'm heading over to Canada in September through USIT's Under 35 Work Programme. Has anyone who is doing the same purchased their flights through USIT yet, and if so how much did they cost? If you can give me dates and cities as well that would be great. I'm thinking of heading to Vancouver at...

    Premier Seats on Irish Rail?

Thanks for the update. I reckon I'll take my chances and book the premier seats. Fingers crossed!

    Premier Seats on Irish Rail?

Does anyone know if the Dublin/Waterford Intercity train is a new model (green/silver I think?) or the old orange train? Reason is, I am thinking of taking the train to Waterford next week instead of driving but the last time I booked premier seats they were identical to standard seats, just...

BER Assessment - does it really have to be done?

BER's are a complete waste of time. Even if the assessor tells you your property is rated G (or whatever the worst is) there is absolutely nothing you have to do. No requirement to upgrade the property, no laws to say you must improve the rating. I bought an apartment less than 4 years ago and...

Keeping PPR mortgage on investment property

No, of course I didn't think you could get more than 100%. I was simply wondering if there were additional reliefs available in other areas as well as mortgage interest.

Keeping PPR mortgage on investment property

    I didn't 'think' there was, I just asked because I didn't know.

Keeping PPR mortgage on investment property

No, I knew you could write off the interest but I thought there might be some other additional benefits that's all. Cheers!

Keeping PPR mortgage on investment property

Thanks ClubMan. I must look through my original T&C's. Is there any kind of relief (similar to TRS) for investors?

Keeping PPR mortgage on investment property

Are you legally obliged to change your 'owner-occupier' mortgage to a 'residential' mortgage once you let your PPR, or does it depend on the bank/contract/other? etc? Also, do you have to notify Revenue so they can stop paying TRS?

    Immobiliser light on Landcruiser flashing?

I noticed this evening that the immobiliser light was flashing on my Toyota Landcruiser. Anyone know if there's a quick fix for this (I heard something about using the master key to stop the flashing) or do I have to go to a garage?

How do I pay the Income Levy?

Does anybody know how, as an employer, I should pay the Income Levy? I use ROS so I am thinking I can just include it in the 'PRSI' box.
