Paying utilities with credit card for cashback

Is there a flaw with my plan to pay our utilities with the AIB Platinum Credit Card? I have already paid a large gas bill this month. I don't see anything against this in the card T&Cs. What about the direct debit discount we have with utility companies? Technically we still have a DD mandate...

Our AIB mortgage interest is only added quarterly. Does monthly payment go off the principal?

Our AIB mortgage account had a debit of €809 in September labelled "INTEREST CHARGED". Last one was in June. When we were with KBC I could use the pmt function in Excel to work out the payment and then I would calculate the month's interest and take this away from the payment to work out...

    AIB 5 year green at 2.1% (plus €2,000 cashback) v Avant/Finance Ireland 10 year at 2.4%?

Thanks to Paul F for his great thread and his recommendations. I think we have narrowed it down to the above 2. Any suggestions on which we should go for? We're currently with KBC. AIB Cashback covers the legal fees Can possibly over pay any amount according to a couple of threads on here Will...

Switching credit card and stamp duty. Is there leeway?

If I open a new credit card account and then pay off the old one and close it, is there a time period where both can be active for a period without paying the stamp duty twice? If I close the old one 2 weeks later, pay the stamp duty and receive my letter stating this. Then forward this to my...

Thinking of switching Avant @ 1.95% or AIB @ 2.1% with €2k cashback?

We're looking at switching out mortgage. Currently with KBC paying 2.6%. I like the idea of fixing with Avant for 7 years below 2%. But AIB give €2k cashback which would go someway to covering costs. I think we'll have to pay around €1.5k break fee. Plus budgeting €1.5 for solicitor. Current...

Thinking of starting the move from KBC. Maybe Avant for credit card and mortgage? Also savings and Current Account to move.

I'll leave the current account and savings for now. I have opened the online form on Avant for the credit card a few times now but haven't completed it yet. We clear the credit card every month so haven't paid fees/interest in a long time. I think I'll just go ahead and switch credit card. Is...

Health Insurance 2 adults (both 39) and a baby - first time insurance, suggestions?

Looking to get health insurance. What do the basic packages cover? I had a quick look on VHI and see they have a couple of plans for €90+ a month. Would you still get to see consultants quicker than public? I know there would be a loading so it would be a bit more. We can't afford expensive...

Planning for retirement in 20ish years

Sorry if this has been asked numerous times. I'm in the CS. Joined in 2006 so paying full PRSI. I was 25 when I joined, nearly 26. By the time I retire, the State Pension won't be issued until I'm 68 (pending no more changes to this). I really don't want to work until then. I would like to...

Post 2004 Civil Servant planning for early retirement

I'm 36, full time Civil Servant paying class A PRSI. I will have the full 40 years completed when I'm 66 barring any issues. The state pension age will probably be 68+ by then. I'm just wondering (seeing as there's 30 years left) what I should be doing if I want to retire early. 60 or younger...

RE: AVC? If I complete full 40 years service

I see a lot about AVCs and buying back years on here. But if I complete my full 40 years, I presume I can't 'buy back years' But is there any point in doing an AVC to increase my pension for when I retire? Is that even possible? Sorry if that sounds a bit stupid but I find the whole Public...

Mechanic to check over a used car?

Hi I'm looking at picking up a 2nd hand car. I've been looking at the Ford Fiesta from '03 onwards (Only want to spend around €3k). It'll be my first car and as such I don't have any car buying experience. I'll probably bring a friend with me when looking for a car. Anyway, on to my original...

Voluntary Contribution to reduce my PAYE?

This week I got an increment in work of around €20 a week but my take home pay has gone down over €7 a week. This is because I have just crossed the threshold for the Health Levy. Are there any Voluntary Contributions I can make to reduce my PAYE? Someone in work suggested this to me but I...
