    Moving the oil tank

Thankyou for the earlier advice... finally getting around to doing this, having left the oil diminish. Final question - what base should we get for the tank in its new location (currently an old flower bed). Will paving slabs suffice? Or should we get some concrete set? NB: By the way, quotes...

    Moving the oil tank

We are hoping to have a new patio laid and would consider moving the oil tank (by approx 8 feet) to a more suitable (less intrusive) location. We would also like to re-route the pipe from the oil tank to the burner, probably under the new patio. The pipe currently runs a very indirect route...

    Chipped sink

I managed to take a chip (about the size of a shirt button) out of our bathroom sink. It has actually punctured the basin itself, so that water escapes. Given that there is actually a hole there, as opposed to just a crack, will one of those epoxy repair kits actually work? Or am I looking at...

    recommendations for skilled painter

Hi... we recently had our old pine door frames sanded down and painted (we're in Dublin). We replaced the doors with new primed ones. Painter was a really nice guy called Phil - 0860560249. Highly recommended. Buy the best paint you can afford too (we used Farrow and Ball).

    Problems with Nokia E51 Bluetooth

I have a new car (Skoda Octavia), with integrated bluetooth in the Bolero stereo. The trouble is that while it pairs with my Nokia E51, the contacts and call log do not transfer. Internet searches suggest this is a shortcoming of the phone... can anyone suggest a solution? Thanks!

    Efflorescence. Again.

Hi... a bedroom wall (first floor) suffers from several small patches of efflorescence, scattered around on the inside. Two years ago I stripped back the damaged areas, allowed them to dry and re-sealed the wall with a damp wall treatment. I then re-decorated. But it came back. Earlier this year...

    Anglo deposit mistake

We had a savings account with Anglo for a couple of years, to which we made regular monthly deposits. Due to falling interest rates (and general despair at the Anglo situation) I closed it earlier this year. Anglo transferred the balance to another bank account. Now, a few months later, Anglo...

Acer AS4810T Timeline laptop- any good?

Hi... anyone got any opinions on this laptop (with Intel Core 2 Solo processor, 1.4GHz processor speed, 3GB RAM, 14in screen size, 250GB hard drive). It's on "special offer" at Argos... 479.99, supposedly down from 749.99. It would be for general, day-to-day home computing. Cheers

Flying to LA - where to connect?

Is the perceived wisdom to still avoid Heathrow? If so, I'm being offered connections at JFK, Newark, Chicago or Philadelphia. Any advice on which might be easier? Flight times are roughly similar. Airlines are US Airways, Continental or United. Many thanks

Kia cee'd SW or Hyundai i30 estate?

Hiya... we are faced with a similar dilemma, having been attracted to both cars under the scrappage deal. As far as I know, the Hyundai only comes with a 3-year warranty in Ireland (as opposed to 5 years in the UK). It does come with slightly more kit though, although the Kia is very well...

    Light switches failing

Just to clarify.... these are standard switches, controlling standard lights. Two separate, single switches controlling two bedroom, ceiling lights (single bulbs). One double switch controlls a bathroom light (single bulb) and a landing light (single bulb). The lightbulbs were all recently...

    Light switches failing

We had a series of light switches replaced by an electrician about 18 months ago. Over the past few weeks three of the upstairs switches have failed ie they no longer turn the light on. This was usually preceeded by a short period of the switches working irregularly or the lights occasionally...

    Focus Estate versus Mondeo

I have narrowed down new car options to the above choices. The preferred/recommended versions are the 1.6TDCi Focus Estate and 2.0 TDCi Mondeo. 2008 reg. I am also considering getting it through Ford Direct in the UK. Both appear to be really nice cars... the Mondeo is lovely and huge, the Focus...

Can you trade/scrap ROI car in NI?

Am I right in thinking that I wouldn't be able to trade in/scrap an ROI registered car in NI? The car (a Vauxhall Astra) was originally bought and registered in the UK and I still have the original UK plates.

To buy a Ford Focus/Mondeo here or in NI

Just wondering if people still think there's value in importing a Focus or Mondeo from the north/UK and paying the VRT etc... or are car dealers here now worth a visit because they're offering greater value? For reference, I would be looking to buy a 08 or 09 low emissions car to take advantage...
