    Loan of €50,000 from friend

This is all going on memory from about two decades ago so that is why I say seek expert advice. There used to be a company set up in Dublin to promote starter businesses. The CEO wanted to be able to accept donations in a tax efficient way. He registered it as a research institute as opposed...

Looking for a building environmental act ?

Part L of the Building Regulations may apply. Safety Health and welfare at work regulations may apply. The Environmental Protection Act may apply. The Waste Act may apply. As mf1 suggests clarity would help focus the respondents. Its may also be useful for you to ask specific questions once...

Trying to get a handle on extension costs

I would advise that you not put yourself in the hands of one builder. The architect is able to offer you competent, independent design advice. As part of this process, he is competent to issue and comment on tenders received. However, unless he is very busy (!) he may be unable to offer current...

    Management company in Berlin

Phil, Given the amount of interest in German Bonds on AAM at the moment I am a little surprised no-one has responded. Perhaps if your post was clarified a little it might help, so I'll ask this - Why would you need advice on a management company from AAM, an Irish website, if you are renting...

Can ex spouse be legally stopped using your surname?

No, so far as I know. "De minimis non curat lex" "The Law does not concern itself with trifles". You're starting to infringe on basic human rights there. People are legally allowed to change their name by deed poll.

    PC v Apple

Check and see what programs you most need to use and whether t4hese can "Migrate" over to the Apple. I am a PC user and people I spoke to find that there are other programs on Apples that they can use. For their use they didn't find the changeover all that hard but all are home and not...

uninformed irish times article re architects

Thanks threebedsemi. A typically understated piece by John Graby. 4-7% fees on larger projects and an average of 10%. So much for Casey's 30% fee comment - another one who can't count who is in charge of money. ONQ [broken link removed] All advice on AAM is remote from the situation...

Have many people have had a successful outcome with the law society?

What was your total bill, circa, so we can form an opinion of the kind of percentage over run? If the total was €20,000 for your neighbour and he charged you €22,000 that's one thing. If it was €1,000 and he charged you €3,000 that's a quite another.

Under the MUD Act can the directors of a Management Limited Co. be forced to resign?

You seem very concerned with getting rid of the developer directors, is this the case? I think its less of a case of "forced to resign" and more of a case of "failing to get re-elected". Often they are a fund of knowledge on the building, its problems and how these were resolved including...

Timber over a free standing stove

The manufacturer may offer his opinion on a distance - if that. This mayrelate to the kind of flue and the heat produced by the appliance Unless he refers to the regulations it may not be useful in terms of safety or compliance. Unless there is a custom fixing the rest of the manufacturer's...

Is AIB mortgage rate too low? they will lend is €105k and the interest rate is 3.3%.

AIB are looking to rebuild what they describe as a "broken brand". The classic strategy to do is build up a customer base by offering sweet deals. If you want to get a feel for what their longer term strategy is ask them what their fixed rate is. Perhaps its best not to look a gift horse in...

    Playing movie files on TV

You'd be a bit suspicious about what ownership of one of these might be taken to imply though. Possession of compressed files which may be films could raise questions. They'd never co-relate the purchase to your usage would they? See what's happened to this guy

Business Set up mileage expense claims

I'm not sure what part of "you don't get paid for commuting" you didn't take from my post. I agree that when you spend 1-3 hours per day commuting it seems unfair. I grew very annoyed when I found out the tax position on this. That's one reason why I work from a home office.
