Fair Deal/Nursing Homes Fair Deal Payments Query

@Ken651 I think we missed a very important element of the calculation. The first €36k is except from the assessment from link below "The first €36,000 of your assets is exempt from the assessment. This is discounted from your cash assets first, and then your non-cash assets (land or property)"...

I'm in the same boat as you. It is also my understanding but it's been ages since I looked at it and just hope Brexit has not altered the situation..

My experience with installing SEAI grant aided solar PV

Yes the 20 panel max is making more sense now, so be it. The other thing is the company I'm on contact with said they are not willing to ADD to my system instead they will only install a new system leaving me with an additional inverter, is anyone familiar enough to offer a comment on this?

My experience with installing SEAI grant aided solar PV

This is a great thread thank you. We have 6 panels already and considering adding to them. I spoke with a sales guy who 1. Informed me that we can only have a maximum of 20 because you can only feed so much back to the grid. I can’t find any collaborating evidence for this, has anyone heard of...

    CGT calculation - verification

Thanks for posting this question. I find myself in a very similar situation. Can you help me understand the adjustment for inflation please? I see 204k (in 2001) going to 222k (in 2019) that's 8% over 18 years. Do you know if there is there an official government source for this rate?

    Irish state pension

Hi Chris, I would first go to both UK and Ireland agencies Ireland welfare.ie use the search bar to search "insurance record" there is an online form to give you a statement (by post I believe) UK: same drill using https://www.gov.uk/check-state-pension I'm not sure if eventually you draw two...

    Health Insurance Health Insurance query

Snowyb you are a star when I last lived in Ireland I was a regular on this forum mainly under a different name. You are a credit to the AAM community. I did ask Glohealth (recorded by me) if "there is anything else I need to know about this policy" they gave me a little more information but no...

    Health Insurance Health Insurance query

Thanks snowyb this is useful. I have just been onto Glohealth who were talking about the kickoff plan. I think I may be missing something. They told me that for €637 (Kick off plan) they will insure me for public hospitals. I said I don't understand what that is, why would I need insurance...

    Health Insurance Health insurance renewal.

Thanks for starting the thread. I'm returning from UK and looking into Health Insurance. It's quite simply frightening. A question is being asked if I had Private Health Insurance up to a certain date in 2015. I guess that the rules are different for those who didn't ... I didn't. I'm getting...

    Returning after 13 years away

Username123 and BB thanks that great answers it's encouraging to see AAM is still a decent place to meet. Main take away for is to find an insurance company to recognise my NCD and do some research on health insurance.

Moving from UK back to Ireland to work

"You have to be an UK resident to hold an ISA.". Are you sure about that? My understanding is you have to be resident to CONTRIBUTE to ISA but not to maintain it. This is from www.gov.uk 6. If you move abroad or die If you move abroad If you open an Individual Savings Account (ISA) in the...

Moving from UK back to Ireland to work

Do you have an Individual Saving Account (ISA)? it might be worth thinking about leaving it in place if you don't need the money right now. You will always be free from UK tax from gains on this account, so if you ever go back that'll be a thing. I don't think there is an equivalent in...

Anyone able to access Quinn Life?

Look like it's gone for good now? Her'es the message on the web site. Does anyone know about Irish Life's online offer? Quinn Life is in the final stages of preparation for the transfer of the majority of its policies to Irish Life. The transfer will occur on 16th September 2012 and, if you...

    Borrowed Americanisms

Mensa mensa mensam Americanisms or shorthand terms are fine if they bring clarity but that's not always the case. My favouite is the verb "to table" pretty aweful to make a verb of a noun but even worse if you consider that to table in US means that you are NOT going to discuss it while over...

Tool for assessing balance / risk of portfolio

Thanks everyone. I agree that this is ultimately a personal attitude to risk but it'd interesting to see where on that risk spectrum I currently lie. I'll pick up some of the books and get to work on it. As for Fat Boy's suggestion I appreciate I could post up the ratios but that I think...

Tool for assessing balance / risk of portfolio

Can I ask if anyone knows of a free online tool to assess the balance of an investment portfolio. I'm thinking of something that might look across my investments and say it looks like you're a bit exposed to e.g. Japan or you have no commodities or might assess portfolio as being (too)...

    Powerpoint query

Here's a low tech option. Open photo and adjust to the size you need it to be. "Print screen" and paste to "paint" application. Then cut the exact image you need and paste to powerpoint. I do this all the time for quirky stuff on the web. QP
