    Ryanair "need a hand?" email

That article is three years old. As far as I am aware, the planes with the issues now are a different model of the 737 MAX. I presume all O'Leary was saying was if you wanted to wait for the next available non MAX flight, it would be on an older plane, as all their other planes are older...

Revenue Guide - Small Benefit Exemption - a few sneaky bits

Does anyone know the position where a person has two employers? Can they receive a qualifying voucher from each employer for €500 each tax free? If they receive two vouchers from one employer to the value of, say €800, and they prohibited from getting one from the second employer for €200 tax...

As far as I'm aware from 01st January 2024 the age for PRSI exemption in increasing from 66 to 70. https://www.gov.ie/ga/foilsiuchan/70400-changes-to-pay-related-social-insurance-prsi/?#:~:text=As%20it%20stands%2C%20a%20person,Class%20M%2C%20nil%20contribution).

The more flexible contributory state pension. Is it a good deal ?

If you claim the state pension at 66, and continue working, will you pay tax, PRSI and USC at your marginal rate ? You would need to take that into account when calculating the payback if you were to defer. I'm making an assumption that you would pay no tax on the pension if not working.

Can't afford family home - should I invest instead?

At the very least you should be moving the money into an interest paying account. If you are not comfortable locking it away for any length of time, the open a series of regular savings accounts between yourself and your partner. Your focus should be on getting a permanent position. You should...

Thorntons price increase for 2024 - Greyhound charges

Whatever about price, i have found greyhound's service and customer service to be abysmal. I switched about three years ago to Thorntons and there's a world of difference. they are a pleasure to deal with. I have experience of Panda with a commercial account, and it's not good. Check out...

NTMA exploiting Irish Savers as UK Equivalent NS&I Offer Record High Rates

The Irish government can borrow money at a much lower rate than 6.2%, or 4.65% for that matter. Why should they reward already well off people with an increased borrowing rate, when they can, and should use the money to make targeted tax cuts, and welfare increases to those who need them most?

Best Buy Why is the rate the same for different lengths of time?

I've copied this from the Best Buy thread. Why would anyone opt for a 5 year term when the rate is the same for 18 months? Am I missing something? Also, I presume the rate for the 18 month, 3 year and 5 year terms is per annum? Permanent TSB: Fixed Term Accounts 1 Year 1.75% 1 Year 6...

    Kitchen extension query

If you are otherwise happy where you are, then I would go down the extension route. Bear in mind, selling and buying will be a ball of heartache, and probably cost you the guts of €10- 15k after legal fees, stamp duty, moving costs etc.

Car Hire savings Spain, cancelling and rebooking.

I've done this multiple times with car hire in Spain. I find the closer it gets to the hire date, the cheaper the rate is. Booked a car for a week in January for €97. Re-booked about 4 days before travelling and got it for €28! Just be careful to make the second booking before cancelling...

Have car rental prices gone mad ?

I find the closer to your date of rental, the cheaper the rental will be. I am tracking an 8 day rental in Spain at the end of April. Currently about €180 for Wednesday to Wednesday. If I put in next Wednesday to the following Wednesday, the price is ~ €60. In January I had a mid- range car...

Key Post How much will you spend in retirement?

4 weeks in the sun each winter is €3,928. Seems way over the top, unless you're going to a 5* in Acapulco. I had a week recently in southern Spain, and total cost was ~ €800. That includes flights, which wouldn't be applicable for the other three weeks, as well as general living expenses, of...

best time to exchange pounds to euros

If you want to convert it all into Euro, but are in no rush, then i would set up an account with one of the FX companies (To get the best rates), and convert the money over a period that suits you. E.G.- £5,000 per month over 10 months, or whatever. This will spread the risk of you hitting a...

Judge gives tenants who have paid no rent for 3 years a stay on their eviction

There should be a cheap and easy way to get an order for payment of rent arrears. Unless there are other things at play; landlord not making good repairs etc., then an order against the tenants would soften their cough, so to speak. The landlord may have no chance of getting their money, but...
