    Bees on a balcony

Thank you again Fraggle. I am going to research it a lot more. The ceramic hive looks very small. I'm worried its more of a gadget and initially I was thinking of just having a small space for bumble bees but it looks like that might be unfair for any bumble bee! I love b-bees and have no fear...

    Bees on a balcony

Hi Fraggle, It's for bumble bees only. The ceramic hive is quite small and as bees are in decline I thought I'd do my bit. I've read that you can have bees in an apartment but they don't say where, most blogs in in the UK and USA and I'm thinking they may mean on the roof-top of an apartment? My...

Living and working in the Caymans

Hi there, I'm just looking for some advice on what it is like to work and live in the Caymans. Would anyone recommend it for a few years? Is it a nice place to work? What were your experiences? Thank you ShelleyB

Who has all the money which is on deposit?

Thanks for all your comments, they were really interesting and insightful. I'll let you talk among yourselves of you want but I'm signing off. I read a really interesting quote from someone who said "we are all now in the workhouse" whether we like it or not.

Who has all the money which is on deposit?

I haven't denied it. My apartment was sold to me at a lesser price then the apartment in the block opposite me. If I had the same money that the couple in the opposite block had I would have bought it for the price they paid but that's all relative. I am in negative equity too. We are just...

Who has all the money which is on deposit?

No I agree with you and I too was one of those taxpayers. Affordable housing is also private housing.

Who has all the money which is on deposit?

I agree with this post but you did buy during a different time and there was a certain set of 'sufficent conditions' for you to make a wise decision to take out a mortgage. Of course, it could be argued that this can be done at anytime. I really don't know.

Who has all the money which is on deposit?

Is it a moral issue? Surely morals cannot be selective? Affordable housing is NOT social housing. Those who bought AH paid tax and subsidized the scheme too. Maybe I am wrong and maybe I'm the only one who's never had those kind of savings then? So it is a genuine learning curve for me...

Who has all the money which is on deposit?

It was about 1/5 months ago outside Limerick I believe. People queued for hours. So what's the difference between someone who at the time could afford a home but due to a number of factors coming together then couldn't. At what point do you decide you can afford/manage something for sure and...

Who has all the money which is on deposit?

I don't condone pensioners being further taxed. My parents are pensioners and they are going to be hit badly this coming Budget. [Although, there are well off pensioners with private pensions receiving a state pension also but that is a different argument.] Also either this is or isn't a moral...

Who has all the money which is on deposit?

Some very interesting comments here along with the usual "I'm alright jack" responses. It still doesn't answer where all the money went, it has to have gone somewhere and there obviously is considerable money still in the country. Personally I would not like to see savings taxed. I've paid a...

Child Scribbling on Walls - Normal Wear & Tear?

I think this is a petty remark. It's a legal question, is scribbling on walls part of 'normal wear in tear' the answer is no. Of course, if you were Banksy then it would be a different matter wherein the landlord would remove the whole wall and sell it to the Tate Modern for loads of money.

Price differences between UK and Ireland

I don't agree with the argument that we are paid too much over here. I suppose it depends on your occupation. We do pay a lot in levies, services and facilities. In London, (for admin/sec work) my salary was 10,000 more then it was here and although I paid council tax, my tax was lower and it...

Who has all the money which is on deposit?

Marietta, I gave their location to a member of the Simon Community who were very interested as they had no record of this particular location being used. I believe they have started to visit them. S

Who has all the money which is on deposit?

I'm genuinely surprised by the amount of money that seems to be wafting around. People transferring theirs savings, yes 'savings' to banks outside of Ireland, people who have their mortgages cleared and don't want to part with their safely hoarded large disposal incomes, ghost estates with 5...

    renting out affordable housing

Ask the council, I agree there should be some flexibility here. I remember in the UK, it was possible to freeze your mortgage for a year to go travelling, no matter what your age and that was 10 years ago! I don't know how things are now in the UK. In this regard, homes and affordable homes...

    Bringing animals back into Ireland

Hi Everyone, Thank you for your replies and links. According to Citizen's Advice Cayman is one of the 'qualifying non-european countries' that you can bring your pet in and out of without quarantine but I would have to stay out of ireland for at least six months (and if it didn't work out...
