Brendan and David McWilliams on LateLateShow 26/Oct/12

Wasn't really the forum for the guests to take cheap shots at each other. Thought it ruined the opportunity for a good discussion, to be honest.

    The "Poverty Trap" budget

Which reports were they? Were they by the same researcher as this one? Which aspects of the analysis in this report do you disagree with?

    Current racism rows

Using any adjective in an insult is usually derogatory rather than descriptive. If the adjective describes a person's skin colour, it's safe enough to assume it's a racist comment.

Those who earn more ,should pay more

This paper for a start ... [broken link removed]

Those who earn more ,should pay more

The point is that an astronomical reduction in public spending would require further reductions in salaries and/or public programmes (such as FIS). The replacement of income tax with a sales tax would disproportionately affect those who spend proportionately more of their income on items...

Those who earn more ,should pay more

Hmmm... so what more public expenditure would you cut exactly? If it's salaries, don't you think that those public servants not currently availing of Family Income Supplement would so so? Or would you cut that too? Wealthy people spend quite a bit of money alright - but less proportionately...

Referendum on giving Dail more powers for enquires

Agreed. As Fergus Finlay pointed out today, the Government's campaign (if there ever was one) on this amendment should have pointed out the lack of power that the Oireachtas currently has rather than concentrating on the increased power that this amendment would provide them with. Wrong...

    Presidential Election

Was thinking that too. A way for Fianna Fail voters to vote Fianna Fail with a clean conscience.

    Referendum on reducing judges pay.

Unfortunately, this is probably the only debate on these referenda that you will be party to. Both will be passed by a huge majority because they haven't been discussed like this.

SpringBoard part-time courses - OPFP and IB - eligible or not?

According to the website, if you are in receipt of OPFP for 6 months or longer, you are eligible. Don't see why the Illness Benefit should come into it.

Moving in with Partner - On Social Welfare

skyblue - I think it might work like this (assuming you are talking about jobseeker's allowance) ... The rate of payment is calculated first - so this is 188 for you and 124.80 for your partner = 312.80 Then your household income is assessed which I assume is just your partner's earnings -...

    job-seekers - subsidiary employment provision.

Decisions about your entitlements should not be based on guidelines. There is legislation covering subsidiary employment here: [broken link removed] Article 44 covers it. I would think you have a good case that your subsidiary employment remains subsidiary to your usual employment even if...

    State Pension

Yes, class S count towards the contributory pension. Not sure you can "buy" contributions/credits retrospectively - doubt it.
