    NLWT & Preliminary Tax

My husband just filed his 2023 tax return. He is non-resident, so since 01/07/2023, he has been paying NWLT of 20% of his portion of the rental income. He will pay NLWT each month in 2024 for 20% of his portion of the rental income, so once any expenses/repairs etc are included in the tax...

    Vodafone upgrade

To get an upgrade, you will need to sign up for a new contract term, so your handset would be linked to vodafone for the contract term. If you already have a usable handset you can take the upgrade for the contract term but you would need to switch your daughter's number to vodafone PAYG to use...

Aer Lingus Credit card - pros and cons?

Does the travel insurance cover everyone in the household, or just the card holder?

New job in Dublin living in England hybrid working

If you are working in Ireland (part-time) and tax resident in the UK, you will be liable for tax on all your income in the UK, however you will receive credit for tax already paid in Ireland. Working on site in Ireland will also require you to pay tax here.

Holiday home Spain or Portugal ?

Agree with Leper on this - you would have a hell of a lot of holidays for 250k and none of the headaches.

Mgmt company overcharging while doing no actual work. Solution?

When I lived in an apartment with a managment company, the fees were apportioned based on the square footage of the apartment. Could this be the reason you are paying higher fees, is your unit bigger than the others?

    Changing electric providers?

I'm in a similar position - is it expected that unit rates will drop after 1st of Jan? I notice a lot of the newer alternative plans have a fixed rate for the term of the contract, so while currently cheaper, may be more expensive in the long run.

Ryanair. If you don't pay for a seat, you may have to queue to get a boarding pass

Pmc365, you should take that to the consumer section of the IAA https://www.iaa.ie/consumer-protection/air-passenger-rights once you have a final decision from Ryanair. I claimed from Aer Lingus in Jul-22 when lots of flights were cancelled due to crew illness. They declined the payment. I had...

Ryanair changed my flight times and they don't suit me

Compensation doesn't kick in until you are delayed 3hrs after your arrival time. The arrival time would be the "final" arrival time on the final flight change.

ROS Self Assessment - View PAYE income

Do you have Revenue "MyAccount" set up? https://www.ros.ie/myaccount-web/sign_in.html?execution=e1s1 If not register for it here and you can see your PAYE income, this usually feeds directly into the tax return in ROS in my experience. Remember that rental income will be charged at your marginal...

    BASF Walltite Insulation - Experiences?

Hi GDuffy87 :) We have some very minor settling cracks inside, something which I think is fairly common anyway. Only one of the cracks is on the inside of an outside wall. We don't have any cracks on the outside walls. We are very happy with it. The only complaint I would have is that during...

Air Fryer - More Energy Efficient?

The oven is bigger so will take longer to reach the same temperature as the airfryer. In addition, ovens usually need to be preheated while Airfryers do not. Airfryers cook approximately 20% faster than regular ovens.

    Retrofit quote

Would also suggest demolishing and re-building, if that is the best price you can get. You would get a better BER rating at the end and the cost should not be significantly more, your rooms would be a better size as not constrained by internal insulation and you may also get a more suitable...

    Pay Mortgage Weekly

I've been doing this for years with PTSB. What I was told by PTSB is that it sort of goes to a "holding" area in your account and then the monthly mortgage is drawn out of there but as interest is calculated daily, it does reduce your balance for the purposes of the interest calculation.

    RTB very late payment

Also be aware that if mortgage interest was claimed as an expense against the rental property, the rental property is required to be registered with the RTB. It might be an issue if you had an audit down the line.

Tax Treatment of Landlords has to be Revisited

The current system where the tenant has all the rights and the landlord cannot evict in a timely manner, if the rent is not paid, is not fair at all. I'm all for fairness but it has to work both ways. We've been really lucky that it hasn't happened to us, but Iots of small landlords have been...

Tax Treatment of Landlords has to be Revisited

Even a 14k cap for property rental (assuming all taxable once over 14k) wouldn't be feasible for a lot of small landlords. If I was to drop the rent on our rental property to 14k, we would lose more than we normally pay in tax. And our rent is set far lower than most in the area. We are...

Not returning to work after paid maternity leave

Agree with the others, first step is to speak with your employer asap. On a personal note, when my son was small (but not as young as yours), I worked in a job that necessitated leaving him in creche at 0745hrs and collecting around 1800hrs, it was exhausting for both of us. We were on a...
