Installing 2 outdoor sockets - pointers please.

Thanks guys. When it comes to electrics and water, I never take a chance. The installation of the hardware would be okay, but as for wiring it up safely to avoid flushing the toilet by switching on the lights ... I'd insist that any work would be up to code standard too. I'll leave it to the...

Installing 2 outdoor sockets - pointers please.

I'm hoping to install an outdoor socket (a weatherproof one from Aldi). I have a light switch for the outside light inside the back door which is in line with the position I require the socket. Would I be able to work a socket from the light switch wiring? I want the socket at normal height...

Replacing battery in '02 Audi A4.

The one touch has fixed itself somehow. I had googled the procedure and it always read a lot more complicated than it actually was. Thanks for the help.

Replacing battery in '02 Audi A4.

Thanks for the tips. Got it done once I figured out how to get the thing out! Just a simple matter of slipping off the rubber seal along the width of the engine bay and popping off the plastic cover. A long allen set required too. Had noticed the "one touch" setting on the windows has stopped...

Replacing battery in '02 Audi A4.

My car has failed to start and will only start with jump leads. I reckon it needs a new battery. It's a '02 TDI 130 bhp. Does anyone know if there's any precautions i need to take before replacing it regarding on board computers, etc.? Thanks.

    Breaking Red Light/No Tax

The guard may well summons you for no tax/tax displayed (especially if he checks out AAM!). Back date your tax to the date of expiry to prove there has been no loss of revenue ( i.e. to the rest of us who pay) and produce this evidence to the judge.

    Traffic Fine, address incorrect

o.p., Sounds like the guard has a couple of penal warrants which are issued when a defendant fails to pay a court fine. If this is the case, just be aware that you could be lodged in prison if you don't pay the fine. The guard probably wants you to pay one warrant first and the other one next...

Getting someones name from car number plate

Data Protection Act As above. Guards have been sacked for this. Best idea yet. Civil/criminal lines being blurred here. It might be sorted by a simple phone call though. It may have been a simple mistake- the "culprits" might have assumed the b&b will bill them from credit card details given...

can a hotel charge me for a special exemption order?

I paid for mine. A while after I handed over the cash, I had a niggling suspicion that they might have charged me for it and never actually went to court for one. I wanted to go back to the hotel to see the exemption for my wedding date but mrs deadwood talked me out of it. Anyone in the trade...

    Paperwork to scrap a car?

There's a section on your vehicle registration cert to say that you scrapped it. Just send this to Shannon. Never heard of that letter from gardai about cutting the axle before.

    Cork - attic steps

If this is a store-bought one, would you try and fit it yourself? I did my own with a second pair of hands for lifting and positioning. No specialist tools were required either. I had a stira fitted in another house before, which is excellent, but i'm more than happy with my diy job.

    garda procedure at speed trap

I understand Caveat, just stirring a bit. The smiley face didn't have the desired effect, I guess. If it hasn't happened already, i'm sure it's only a matter of time before an expert will have to go to court to outline the procedure. It's refreshing to see the thread hasn't descended into...

    garda procedure at speed trap

Well, they're calibrated to read km/h. Unless the km has been made longer of unit of time has been shortened since the last calibration?:D The training is quite thorough as any measure taken in this area (i.e. road safety - intoxylizers, speed detection etc.) is scrutinised minutely in court...

    garda procedure at speed trap

The devices are regularly returned to the manufacturers for calibration and this is certified by them. (No, I don't know what this involves - they drop eggs out of a hot air balloon, or something) These certs are sometimes requested in court. Members using the device must be trained and are...

Garda Traffic Corps and possibility of speeding fine.

To get the most accurate reading from the laser, the user must point it as "head-on" to the target as possible (front or rear doesn't matter). The reading from the opposite side of the road/dual carriageway would be lower. (to do with cosines, hypotenuse blah blah. . .) The traffic on your...

Changing dipped bulb on 02 Audi A4 - leave it to the professionals?

Thanks for that. I've bought the Haynes books for previous cars and find them very handy. The price is well worth it compared to labour/parts costs for simple jobs. I wanted to get it changed today before dark, and haven't been to a Halfords in a while!
