    Weeding under a hedge

What i do for my laurel hedge is cut the grass/weeds once, then cover with grass cuttings every time I cut the lawn. Literally smother the weeds. AFAIK the grass cuttings actually nourish the plants too. HTH

    kid messing with plant

I have plants and I have kids and despite my little darlings being quite well-behaved, they would ruin a plant if I didn't tell them not to. Kids need to be taught everything. Speak to the parents. They may not even know it's happening? Tell the child if you see him not to touch the plant...

    Job application - unsuitable Why?

Sorry to sound cynical, but could it have been a job that was 'earmarked' for someone (internally) and just advertised as a matter of following procedure?

Can you be made to do the work you would be doing while on annual leave before you go

Re: Can you be made to do the work you would be doing while on annual leave before yo I think it's reality for most people. And unfair. Going on maternity leave I nearly killed myself getting everything up to date and writing out procedures that had never been recorded before. Of course when...

Leaving Cert Applied: Education options for teens

Re: Education options for teens Isn't it sad though that if a child decides they want to be a plumber, plasterer, manual worker they are given the message that they have a 'lower' education and are held in lower esteem than our accountants, office workers etc. I know this has been the case for...

Hi all, Going back through all my tax returns, it has emerged that my husband and I were never jointly assessed, although we thought we were, and certainly filled out a form years ago to request it. In 2004 and 05 we had some rental income and capital gains which I declared (I thought jointly)...

    Ryan Air Infants

Yes, this happened us. We managed to phone them and told them the situation, they advised us to just book the required seats without the baby and later call back and add the infant's name, the extra €10 would just be taken from credit card. Of course I don't have the number we called now, but...

    making compost question texture

Depends on what you put in, yes, and mine can be different depending on the time of year - summer gets a better mix, winter gets mostly veg peelings - but don't let the soggy stuff put you off. Mix it with ordinary soil or shop compost and your plants will enjoy it anyway!

    Yours sincerely & yours faithfully

I always hated 'faithfully' so never use it despite what they tried to teach me! "Yours sincerely" sounds lovely. In my opinion 'best regards' emerged around the time of faxes and then emails and I would limit them to that. I hate seeing Best regards on a letter. No wonder people have a...
