"more than 200 restaurants and cafes have shut this year"

I see the same at work. Colleagues who always left the building for lunch are doing at least 2 days in now. The ones who were better at bringing lunch are even better now and will have a stock of snacks like soup, noodles, packet of egg rice in the drawer.

    Public Sector Car Insurance schemes

I haven't bothered with PS schemes either. I got quotes a good few years ago which were much higher. I've never found chill or bonkers any good but colleagues at work have. I do about 2 or 3 companies a night for a week, keep a note of the quotes. I simply ignore the calls. I got €350 this...

    Grievance informal

The 'informal' grievance is also called pre procedure. So as many said treat it as formal. If you proceed to formal, you start again, ie: treat it like it is the first time you are raising the complaint.

That wasn't her. It was someone else. Can't remember who, think the actor had dark hair.

    Any good Christmas movies/series recommendations

The enquiry is meeting later this week. I hope others are held accountable too. The system was in place before she took the job. Loads more knew and hid information

Help with calculating pension entitlements - public sector worker

If someone was due to retire, how is pension calculated? I'd send another request. I'd also get service letters sorted now as that ultimately will decide the pension and lump sum. No harm getting the PRSI records but as someone else said the job sharing years won't show as job sharing. I'm...

    Technical Adjustment HSE

I would write an email as follows. I repaid the technical adjustment in 2013. Please ensure no deduction is made from my salary as thus would be an unlawful deduction under the payment of wages act 1991. Kind regards, Also they should have had a written instruction, can you or then...

Health Insurance Family of five moving back to Ireland - what health insurance cover?

Dermot Goode seems to be the only health insurance expert in Ireland. In the OP's case I think it would be worthwhile paying a few bob.

Continuous Double vs Single White line on the road

I can't remember seeing a double continous line with a break. Where I live has a continous single line but has breaks near entrances. But that said, I'm driving 23 years and I only overtake tractors. Otherwise I just drive in a normal fashion.

Job discrimination on the basis of current employment

Fairly sure it was grade VIII and above. Exceptions can be applied for. New HSE boss has to get on top of costs so has paused Grade 8s but I've already see recent adverts.

Job discrimination on the basis of current employment

It's a union agreement but I'm surprised it's being applied to ICT as they use to be exempt. If they fail to fill from within they can advertise externally. I had a look at the HSE and saw ICT or ehealth posts which are open to external candidates from what I could see.

People face losing money on shopping centre gift cards

I like a voucher but always use them fast! I got 2 all4one last year totalling €100. I just went into my local household place. I got me a fancy zester, a decent cheese grater for hard cheeses and a decent tempeture probe. I had to add a tenner or so. Just spend them.

Confused about salary scale on grade promotion

She's in the HSE. Starting Pay on Promotion circ 10/71 should apply. I had a pristine copy which I lost during several office moves. I would say off the top of my head, level 1 of the VII sounds about right. A 3k jump is a significant rise imo. Wait for the increments, they are a lot less.

Delays in accessing figures for HSE pension, never mind the pension itself

When did you retire? All pensions are now paid out in Leitrim which was meant to streamline it. As far as I can see it has utterly failed but managers at grade 8 and above have multiplied. Same with the recruitment function. They are proposing to bring recruitment back to the local areas (it...

Why don’t women who suffered the ‘Marriage Ban’ sue the State?

I don't know if it was officially a recession but money was tight in out house of 5 kids. Obviously we didn't notice but my Mom told me she worried about money / paying bills etc a lot until we got jobs.
