2020 Statement of Liability available already

I'd check your P21 Balancing Statement very carefully as mine bore little relation to the tax return I filled in online They seemed to have taken one additional income value from my tax return and ignored all other reliefs and credits So it looks as if what you submit on the online form must be...

Qualification for bilateral IRE/UK state pension

She got a statement which said she has 23 contributions from her teens and I agree that topping up her UK contributions could be an idea but doesn't help with the potential issue of the 52 minimum PRSI contributions

Qualification for bilateral IRE/UK state pension

Thanks for the reply but I think her average contributions will be OK because of the Homemaker's Scheme and her 20 years of UK contributions I'm more concerned about the minimum PRSI contributions as it appears that you have to have made 260 contributions before you can buy voluntary ones.

Qualification for bilateral IRE/UK state pension

My wife returned to Ireland 10 years ago having worked in the UK for 20 years but hasn't worked since. She had 6 months of Class PRSI contributions in Ireland before leaving and 20 years of NI contribution from whilst she was in the UK. Looking at the rules for Bilateral state pensions it...

    Stove and Air Wash

I have two stoves both with airwash and one blackens then glass and the other doesn't. I was recommended to use vinegar to clean the glass and I find it perfect for the job. Each time I empty the ash then a quick wipe with vinegar on a kitchen sponge gets the black off the glass easily.

How to solve problem with underpaid tax due to foreign savings interest

Thanks for the advice Gervan - the tax credits given in 2008 when the interest income was greatest were:- Married Couple (one income) €44,400; Married persons €3660; PAYE €1830; Home Carers €900 Do you think that instead we should have got Married Couple (dual...

How to solve problem with underpaid tax due to foreign savings interest

I don't think my situation has been covered specifically before so I would appreciate any advice that AAMers can give. I moved to Ireland with my family in 2008 and due to total ignorance of the Irish tax system we have not paid enough tax and would appreciate any advice how best to handle the...

    TRS not changed to 30%

I just spoke with PTSB who reckon that none of their mortgage accounts have had the TRS changed to 30% yet but that people with a variable rate mortgage will have seen changes to both tax relief and payment simply due to the rate reduction. Who knows what the real story is but I was told we...

Will there be a PTSB Overpayment Bonus Scheme in 2012

There were rumours a couple of months ago that in the New Year PTSB would be running another more generous bonus scheme for people paying off lump sums. Does anyone know if there is any substance to these rumours and whether the additional loans provide to banks by the ECB will make such a...

Key Post The best way to transfer large amounts in euro to and from other currencies

Hi Brendan If you check the website www.worldfirst.com then there is a whole section on security explaining how customers are protected, a part of it is copied below.... I have also used another company called MoneyCorp who were also excellent but I found the WorldFirst rates and regular...

Key Post The best way to transfer large amounts in euro to and from other currencies

I have been using a company called WorldFirst for a long time to transfer sterling from my UK bank account to PTSB. There are no transfer fees and many ways to do transfers. Initially when I moved to Ireland and still had salary paid in UK then I just set up a regular transfer for a fixed...

Registering a Foreign Irish Birth in Ireland

I believe Mammyof2 is correct. My wife is Irish but born in uk so we had to go through the Foreign Birth Registration procedure in order to allow our UK born kids to have their Irish nationality recorded. The process is simple and the benefit is that an Irish child's 5-year passport is much...

    Cars with three year warranties

I would not rely on VW's inconsistent Customer Services. My car developed an ABS.ESC fault one week beyond the manuf warranty which cost €1,750 to repair. After many calls and emails VW contrubuted a lousy €200 for the repair. VW said this was because the 1st service had been performed by a...

    Shady dealings in Cork showrooms

I was looking recently to buy a 2 year old car from a main dealer in Cork. Looking on the internet I noticed that all the prices were removed from the cars for sale. I rang the dealer to ask what was going on and he said that they were having a special promotion for their regular customers but...

Key Post What is a fair price for paying off a cheap tracker early?

I see your point, I was only taking a short term view I will certainly take your advice and take up the offer I wonder though why they put a limit on the offer, I would say that is simply to drum up some artificial sense of urgency. If they are lucky enough to get £500m in takings and...
