I've being using this for a few years without issue. Recently (since Friday) I've noticed some transactions are not using the facility, whereas others continue to do so. Wondering if anyone else has noticed this, and if they're aware if something has changed ? For example; - bought coffee in...

Query re. Ulster Bank & online banking

Not a customer but someone who owes me money (small amount) is. I asked her to send it to me (BOI) electronically & was told she would have to visit her branch to so. Is this accurate ? Can Ulster Bank customers not register Payees using an online self-service option ? I'm with BOI and have...

Stop funds from buying blocks of apartments to rent

I'd be swayed by a political party who could put a stop to this type of transaction. https://www.irishtimes.com/business/construction/cairn-sells-229-homes-to-landlord-for-78m-1.4135996 Developer building 1100 homes - Good Developer pre-selling 220 homes to landlord - Bad

    Query re. Med2 forms

Is there a limit to how far back one can claim on a Med2 form ? My older kid started orthodontic treatment in 2013 and I never claimed a cent. Also, can they be submitted for years in which a tax return has already been submitted ? Thank you

Is it just me, or ..

I'm happy to lean into being middle-aged and to be selectively dismissive of aspects of modern life that didn't exist in the world in which I grew up. Sometimes I wonder it is just me, or are some behaviours just unequivocally unacceptable. Like today. I'm at a work and felt the need to...

    Small repair of cement

I have a small bit of DIY to do at home. The garage door has a 'lip', made of cement, running around the outline. A small piece has broken away and I would like to fix it back in place. I guess what I need is very small amount of cement, or something to use as a bonding agent ? Any...

    Info on SKY set-up

I tried to find this on the SKY site but was not successful. After years of being resistant to the idea, I'm warming to switching to SKY for their TV service. The sticking point, to date, has been my reluctance to run a cable from the dish at the back of the house, to the TV in the front room...

Plug access on Aer Lingus flight to SFO

I am travelling to San Francisco with Aer Lingus later this year. It is an 11 hour flight so the facility to re-charge devices would be welcome. As far as I have been able to ascertain, the plane will be an Airbus A332 and a third-party website (SeatGuru) indicates power outlets are available...

    Learning DROPBOX, the hard way

A year or two ago an external hard drive of mine stopped working and the GBs of family photographs on it were now inaccessible. I paid a significant amount of money to get the data recovered and decided to get a subscription to Dropbox. I piled all such data into my Dropbox folders and thought...

Can't get rid of some annoying 'malware'

I have a piece of software on my PC that I want to get rid of. It's called Internet Speed Checker and is resistant to the usual efforts. I am not sure how it got here. When I try to uninstall using Control Panel > Programs & Features, the process doesn't complete. When I search for the...

    EXCEL question

I am trying to solve a puzzle using EXCEL. The puzzle comprises a 9x9 grid, similar to, but not, a SUDOKU, grid. Each row and each column adds up to a given number. Similarly, both diagonals (top left to bottom right, bottom left to top right) add up to a given number. Some cell values are...

    Android phone battery drain

Posting this in the hope someone had a similar experience and knows how to get around it. I have had a SONY phone for about a year and all has been OK. Last week I was prompted to, and took, an Android (4.4) update. Since then battery life has declined dramatically. With no change in phone...

    HSE Prescription Claim Form

Each time I get a prescription filled, I am given a HSE form titled 'Prescription Claim Form'. I have a Drug Payment Scheme but never come near the monthly threshold. What is the purpose of this form ? I assume that spend on prescription drugs is not eligible for claim under a Med 1.

    Registrations greater than 120000

My understanding is that these are imports. Are there dealers specialising in such cars, or are they imported to order ? If I were interested in getting one, are there particular dealers to focus on, or would any dealer be able to source one for me ?

    Dublin to Cahirciveen

Google suggests M7 to Limerick, then N21 to Castleisland, some 'L' roads to Killorglin, joining N70 to Cahirciveen. Another suggestion is M8 to Mitchelstown, then N72 to Mallow, Killarney and on to Killorglin. The Google suggestion is 13 miles less, but the other suggestion is on better...

I get my prescriptions in the North

I have a prescription that costs me about €40 per month. Following a recent newspaper report, I went to Newry to get the prescription filled. I got it filled for 4 months. Cost in Dublin would have been €160. Cost in Newry was £40. Add in petrol costs and I've saved about €100.

Key Post How credit card interest is calculated. How to get an interest-free period.

Can anyone clarify something for me please about credit card interest ? Assume I have an outstanding balance on a card of EUR 1,000.00. At the date the bill is due to be paid, I make a payment of EUR 800.00. Because the bill has not been cleared, I now am liable to have interest charged to...

    Superquinn sausages

Much of the reaction I have read to yesterday's news, about Superquinn being rebranded as SuperValu, centres on the future of the Superquinn sausage. Is it a significantly better sausage than other Irish made ones ? Or is this just more of those assumptions that people take as an act of...
